Court nominee does well in poll; Rove does not
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-07-25-roberts-rove-poll_x.htm?POE=NEWISVA

excerpt:

A USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday finds that 51% of Americans expect "a major fight" over Roberts in the Senate. But by 59% to 22%, those surveyed say he should be confirmed for the job. (Poll results: Roberts | Rove)

Roberts' favorable-unfavorable ratings are a muscular 46%-13%; 19% haven't heard of him.

In contrast, by 34% to 25%, Americans have an unfavorable view of Rove; 25% have never heard of him. Seen by many as Bush's most powerful White House adviser, Rove has been in the news lately because of an investigation into whether administration officials illegally leaked the name of a CIA operative to reporters.

<snip>

Even so, 25% think Rove broke the law in the case. An additional 37% suspect that he did something unethical but not illegal. Just 15% say they think he didn't do anything seriously wrong.

10. Not everyone follows politics...
and Rove isn't a member of his cabinet. I don't find it that unusual that a small percentage of the public doesn't recognize him.

Many folks have more to worry about during their daily lives than political football matches. I don't think it is fair to criticize these folks.

2. People amaze me
I'll bet there are still a number of Senators who don't believe they know enough about Roberts to be sure about whether or not to confirm him, so how in the world do a majority of the public already know enough about this guy to support his confirmation? 'cause Shrub said he should be confirmed?

4. Well that, and the fact that none of the DINOs is opposing him ...
and the MSM keeps talking up his "virtues" 24/7.

To the clueless wonders who know only what Wolf and Katie and Rush tell them, Roberts is a saint.

Just business as usual in Bushworld.

5. cnn only covered the missing blonde in Aruba tonight
I am not demeaning her disappearance, but if the "news" never moves off the :puffpiece: how can middle amurika 6 pack Joe and Jane ever know what the hell is going on.

In our supposedly enlightened area of northern california, a good 25% of the people here have never heard of him.

Yep, it's an uphill fight, but fortunately, Patrick Fitzgerald has heard about him and I have a feeling he thinks KKKarl has done something wrong.

6. I wonder if Roberts' numbers will go down...
once his views on abortion are solidified in the public eye.

8. 25% favorable + 25% haven't heard of him = 50% clueless
'Merika is in deep caca if that is the level of citizen engagement in national politics.

9. I'm glad...
that the media is starting to talk about more supreme court issues above the rove back and forth. The nominees are the real story... we will be talking about their decisions for the next 30 years.
