.. to think it's worth their time to vote, so enlightened attitudes towards Boy George may spread slowly ...

9. I had a fight (verbal) with a moron yesterday
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 09:09 PM by UpInArms
first he hold me he was retired AF and had one son in the AF and one in the Navy.

I told him that was nice - I just wished we had an administration with better foreign policies.

He then informed (?) me that this was the best foreign policy that we had in 30 years.

After I got through laughing - I told him they were more corrupt than any other administration ever.

He told me that he was unhappy with Clinton because in 1992 his Social Security was messed with.

I said it wasn't Clinton in '92 because he didn't take office until January of '93, and that he was talking about the first Bush administration.

I was then informed (?) that Clinton was in office from 1990. (?????)

I got two (count them 2) bystanders to tell him he was incorrect - but he continued to go on and on about how I was wrong.

Finally, I looked at my watch (he had been blowing his boozy breath on me for about 20 minutes) and informed him that it was 11:00 in the morning and he had obviously already had far too much to drink, that he needed to sober up, learn the facts and get his life together.

(edited for clarity)

40. I know what's going on?
That is an untrue statement. What I know is what is not going on, the truth. It's easier to assume most everything you encounter has fraud or lie factor in it. Sifting out things that sound reasonable and make sense, which evidence and collaborating witness want to give credence is only a starting point.

I don't read the news in my local rag because I proved to myself over a period of YEARS they fucking lying on purpose.

Engaging your coworker on her beliefs and vis-a-versa could also be enlightening for one or both parties, being you are both stuck in the car together.

49. It sounds like you want to preach to her
Listen to her, put yourself in her place. Try to think the things she is thinking and then bounce them ideas off her. Most of all forget the politics if you can. For some politics are a polite as subject as sex or romance. Some people get these far fetched ideas in their head and don't want them to be known for fear of being hurt or ridiculed by others for them views. You probably are all ready on the other side of the views she sees safe and the only way will ever change that is if you lay it aside. In other words you might find it easier breaking into Fort Knox to steal gold than getting know too much about her.

Trying to change others when you are unwilling to change your self never really works in the end anyway. I try to get to know them when I can and then if that place is there for that little bit of charity I can give it. There is that conservative verse, 'Charity is most effective when used least as possible' to paraphrase. Sounds painful but sometimes the only way you might get satisfaction (if you need it) is to put all your marbles in the game

7. I would divide the 44% into these 3 groups:
1. Hardcore right wing ideologues
2. People whose personal fortunes are doing very well, and don't care/aren't affected by world events.
3. People who don't care about politics, don't pay attention, and just like to give nice upbeat answers to the person on the phone asking all those questions.

or:
1. Deluded
2. Self centered
3. Clueless

There is a local store I cannot even go into anymore because the owner is so angry with bush, and apparently I'm one of very few people who even realize what a disaster he truly is, that the last couple of times I've been in there she went on a 30-minute rant about how bush is destroying her livelihood and her future with his policies. Plus, she's Christian and thinks he's full of sh*t.

I wish I had 30 minutes of time to give her just for dropping in, but I don't. If she were on the Internet, I'd send her to DU :7

There are still a ton of yellow ribbon car magnets, although it has decreased. One thing I have noticed is a dramatic decline in the big US flags attached to both the right and left front car windows. Those are the ones that crack me up the most. I've always thought those flags were sported by the guys with the very tiniest appendages; those flags were like Viagra to them. Instant manhood. It must have been exhilarating while it lasted.

38. 96% of those polled in July felt strongly enough
to either approve or disapprove of Dumbyass, as opposed to 93% of those polled in February.

Interesting, though, that only 84% felt strongly enough in July to determine that we're either headed in the right or wrong direction. In February, 86% percent were certain enough to answer the question.

Something just doesn't seem right about these figures.
