Obama Undecided About Supreme Court Nominee
Wants To Know If Roberts Has Wisdom, Balance

(AP) WASHINGTON U.S. Senator Barack Obama says he hasn't decided whether he'll vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee John Roberts.

Obama says he doesn't think there's any question that Roberts is qualified in terms of his legal background and intellect.

But the Chicago Democrat says the question now is whether Roberts has the wisdom and the balance to be a Supreme Court justice.

Obama says everyone knows people who are very smart but don't have common sense, and he says it's important that Supreme Court justices have both qualities.

9. Too Bad Bush Didn't Nominate Him!
That would be a four-fer! Young, black, immigrant child, displacing a Democratic Senator.

5. Roberts may lack the wisdom and balance for SC
It is a good way to frame the real problem. Obama knows how to present the key questions and determinants.

6. Obama seems to be playing us

how many times now has he voted for what smirk wants?

is Obama a McCain clone. McCain talks one way and then hugs smirk.

smirk stabs McCain in the back and McCain loves it.

8. Slightly different "quote" and link.

“The issue now is going to be whether Mr. Roberts possesses the wisdom and judgment and balance to serve this country for probably the next 20 to 30 years.”

Not to be fussy, but the "judgment" is an important addition. It's easy enough to see this "value" as being a fundamental requirement for a judge. (Although in this context, I think that the referenced balance is maybe better read as "balance in judgment". "Balance" more generally is good too, though.)

...

Oh, and of course, Roberts doesn't (IMO). But it may prove difficult to make a case that sells to the public (much less to those who hold the votes that we need). The best of the neocon "climbers" keep their noses clean, carefully manage their records and create "cover" on key "litmus-test" issues. But how much doubt can there really be about what this guy will do?

We knew that we would get corporatists (note the plural). But the line is (judicial-vote) position on choice... And I "smell" anti-choice here. -- But we may be unable to adequately "prove" it with this creature.

Delay, dig, grill, work towards a "miracle".
