IRAQI POLICE LOSE CONTROL OVER MOSUL

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi police were said to have lost control over Mosul.

Residents in the northern Iraqi city said police have stopped patrolling most of the city. They said Islamic insurgents have taken control of neighborhoods and walk freely with their weapons through most of Mosul.

"The western part of Mosul has been outside government jurisdiction," Iraqi parliamentarian Hanin Al Qadu said.

Other officials in Mosul agree. They said the spate of assassinations of police and civilian officials has resulted in the erosion of authority in Mosul, the third biggest city in Iraq.

9. I believe Bush is slowly withdrawing from Iraq
That's a big reason why Mosul is "out of control." Armed gangs associated with Sadr have controlled ALL of Basra for many months, but coaltion troops have not attempted to stop it. We are withdrawing from Iraq in stages, imho.

5. Does this imply that at some point the police "had control over Mosul"?
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 12:55 PM by 0rganism
I mean, that's how I read "lost control"; you can't lose what you never had.

17. Remember, 90% of the country is pacified...
Too bad 95% of the population lives in the other 10%.

10. Mosul is probably less violent today without US troops
Get American forces out of Iraq and the violence will decline.

8. Bottom line.
A vast majority of Americans, Democrats and Republicans, prefer to manipulate a civil war somewhere than to deal with a constitutional crisis at home.

So easier to take the oil when the country's all broken into civil war, then you just fund the warlord who sits ontop of the well!

Rumsfeld: "Hmmm..Where's that Zarqawi guy when you need him?!"

14. Iraqi police don't even control the green zone.
Imagine controlling Mosul. Everyone told Bush that an invasion would unleash anarchy. Even his dad knew that. PNAC idiots just think the world is just a big toy for their amusement.
