Bush's announcement on court nominee takes spotlight off Rove

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - Right away, Sen. Harry Reid was suspicious.

If nothing else, he suggested to reporters Tuesday, President Bush's dramatic prime-time announcement of his Supreme Court nominee would take the spotlight off controversies swirling around his key aide and political strategist, Karl Rove.

"It's interesting how the subject has changed from the White House administrative staff to the court today, isn't it?" said Reid, the Senate Democratic leader from Nevada.

"I heard it was going to be next week," he said. "Now, it's this week. And there have been - interesting - no questions here about the CIA operative being outed."

Intentional or not, Bush's announcement has pushed Rove from the top of the news.

6. Of course we can talk
about more than one thing, but MSM can only talk about ONE thing. We choose Rove because it has the biggest implication, if charges are filed.

The First Buffoon and Turd Blossom think they 'diverted" attention. The only diversion was the OutHouse's Cable Infotainment Transcription Channels. Newspapers all over the world are on it like the aroma of Turd Blossom. http://news.google.com >Google's News page is full of hundreds of accounts. By tomorrow the Neo-Con's attention span will be used up

8. Most people don't care about the Supreme Court.
They should, but they don't. So this appointment will be front-page news for only a few days. (Yeah, it's a sucky appointment, but is anybody actually surprised that Bush picked a wingnut? It really isn't news.) Liars in the White House and glamorous spies and indictments and leaks, on the other hand -- now there's a story. It won't go away. The grand jury is in session until October, and the investigation will continue. I'm betting there will be indictments, and that will be BIG news. The spotlight will come back and park right on Rove's ugly ass before long.

9. All of America is suspicious @ the timing-reality is that even if this is
the main focus in the media for the next week+, as soon as Congress goes into recess, they can't cover this thing ad nauseaum without eventually running out of things to discuss because there won't be hearings and discussions until the Senate reconvenes. So, let them beat this issue over the next week, Fitzgerald will continue the investigation and then when the time comes, the case and indictments will be coming...Bush Co. can't avoid the coming storm and no matter how hard they try, they will not be able to deflect it for a long time.

27. Interesting and thanks. I was wondering how unprecedented this was.
I couldn't think of any other time this was done, but wondered if it was ever done at all. That part of it wasn't being discussed. That "splains" it.

12. This was exactly my thoughts also ...
picked the worse nominee he could just after saying he was going to wait a week. DSM day the 23rd, Rove, Cheney coming into the fray.
What a better time than to put up a nominee that they know the Dems will have to fight.

Harry's not falling for it - they are being quiet.
Red Herring - nominee! MSM waiting for that fight!

16. Need to Keep Pressure on MSM
To do the right thing and continue coverage of Rovegate and the DSMs. Yes, Roberts was chosen (as a particularly right wing extremist) to remove the focus on Rove, DSMs, and the continuous lies and deceptions by the Bush WH.

The Blogosphere needs to keep on reporting news on Rovegate as it becomes available, scooping the MSM in an attempt to hook them into continuing coverage.

Roberts is terrible, but we need to intensify our efforts to bring some light and justice to WH policies and actions.

19. er, no
I don't know about Republicans, who are used to having things handed to them, rather than having them earned; but Democrats are more than capable of doing more than one task at once.

26. Hey...
"The deputy whip said, 'A Supreme Court Nomination represents a much greater issue to the American people, media and Senate.'"

But isn't this really the bigger issue??
If a justice is going to sit possibly in excess of 25 to 30 years, doesn't this trump everything? This matter has much wider implications for the future.
