Poll: London Terrorist Attack Worries Americans

But most say terrorists aren't winning the war

A flash CNN/Gallup reaction poll conducted Thursday night after the terrorist bombings in London earlier in the day finds a worried American public, but a calm reaction overall.

Most Americans do not think the coordinated attacks on the London mass transit system indicate the terrorists are winning the war, though most respondents are worried a similar attack could occur in the United States in the next several weeks. And nearly half say they are more worried now because of what happened in London.

Still, most Americans feel that they and their families are at least "somewhat" safe from a similar attack in the United States.

The public leans away from the notion that the London bombings represent the beginning of a sustained terrorist campaign. But a majority of Americans agree that the terrorists targeted Great Britain because of its support of the United States in the Iraq war.

I truly feel sorry for the victims of yesterday's bombings. I also feel sorry for the Iraqi civilians who are constantly terroriized by coalition forces, insurgents and Islamic jihadists.

Half of Bagdad lost its water supply yesterday through a terrorist bombing (with summer temperatures soaring). Iraq just signed a military pact with Iran and.............Oh well never mind.

yesterday and this morning. So it looks like they're right.

he would change his ideas fast..people prefer not to think about whats going on 'over there'..whether it be London or Baghdad, they prefer to be in denial..

6. The thing that gets me is Great Britian has been dealing with this long

It seems to me that Great Britian has been dealing with bombings for a long time, and has much more decent overall security than here in the USA where security is a joke. I don't believe there is any way you can guard against every bad thing, every bad person, and am not arguing comparisons between Iraq, USA, and GB. All I am saying is that I hope this brings home to the people who believe "Mr.bush is keeping us safe" that it can and will happen here. It has in countries that are much more security savey.

I hope this scares enough people to see that the lies are lies and the current administration is threatening us all.
