World not doing enough to fight terrorism -- Putin
07 Jul 2005 15:15:47 GMT

Source: Reuters

GLENEAGLES, Scotland, July 7 (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the London bomb blasts showed that the world was not doing enough to beat terrorism.

"What happened today again testifies to the fact that all of us are doing too little to unite our forces effectively in the struggle against terrorism," Putin said in a statement on the sidelines of the Group of Eight summit in Scotland.

1. Please lead the way Mr. Putin
our president can't even ride a bike, how are we to ever get him to protect us from terrorists. Besides the fact that he can't stay on task and has BIG problems telling the truth and he attacks others and has plans to attack even more countries. Somebody needs to lead, before it's too late.

2. Putin is a Puta.
He is whoring for more control so he can kill those in his way in the name of counter terrorism. I guess he is also marching toward democracy...

5. you cannot "fight" terrorism- by it's very nature.
the only way to "succeed" against terrorism is to strive to resolve/remove the conditions that foster it.

7. agree
"Terror" is not something you can fight with weapons and warfare.

The battle has to be internal, a good long look at one's own soul and policies, a kind of international sensitivity training so to speak.

11. That's very true!
The only way to control terrorism is to stop the recruitment by taking off the iron glove and offer the other cheek.

But this is not about stopping terrorism, as far as the * goes; it's about changing the world by using terrorism/Islam as a scapegoat.

By entering into a war against a shadow enemy, the neocons has raised the stakes considerably and the attacks today could have originated anywhere. It doesn't matter to them - we saw it today; the same empty rethoric about 'resolve' and what have you.
No progress, no real DATA, no Osama bin Laden.

20. The only way to remove the conditions of Muslim Extremists
Is to become Muslim and/or live under Muslim leaders...until a different Muslim sect wants the world to live under it's leaders and convert to their flavor...

This is not a flame... just an account of what needs to be done to meet that condition oh yes... and kill all the Jews.

I personally can not accept those terms... and what happens when the next group decides to use these tactics to further their cause?

Militant KKK declaring we kill all the minority races...
Militant Women's groups who declare we Kill all men...
Militant Gay Men who declare we kill all Straights...

Some people will not just live in peace...until others rot in pieces.

I don't know the answer and I'm afraid none of us ever will until everyone gives up trying to impose upon others. But we will always need an "enemy" to rise up against... I am starting to believe that people in general aren't happy unless they can rise up against something.

if only the weak-minded and weak-willed were not so suceptible to it's charms...
if people could just stop believing in fairy-cloud beings and decide to get along with each other- and face up to the reality of real-world problems, instead of just putting it all in a false god's non-existent hands..

we might actually have a chance.

in other words- no chance.

6. He's speaking militarily.
Do we still want to purse that as our only recourse?... To end it militarily, we would have to kill every Muslim in the world.

8. Terrorism is
a form of retaliations. You can't defeat terrorism without defeating the things that cause it, which isn't so prevalent in the last 10 years.

In order to defeat terrorism, you have to study terrorism, to find its root cause.

Liberals have the correct approach in this regard.

"The rich are richer, the poor are poorer"

I think this pretty much sums up the cause of terrorism.

12. He wants total control of citizens - POLICE STATE.
Between a terrorist threat and the continued loss of my rapidly eroding personal freedoms and privacy - I am far more worried about my own extremist government. There is little crime in totalitarian states (except by the state) but no freedom or real safety.

But yet can't protect its own citizens riding a bus? What do you suggest Mr. Putin? More nukes perhaps?

14. Bush needs to answer that question too
I think the best solution to eliminate terrorism is eliminating poverty world wide.

Stop wasting money on war machines.

15. fighting terrorism
The only way to defeat terrorism is to practice peace. To be stronger and smarter in peace than than the enemy is violent. To dominate the enemy with peace. This means, study, training, will, methods to react that stop violence - not by blowing up everything. Liberals in US know this. They advocate treating terrorist as criminals and bullies. Conservatives know it too but they do not profit financially from peace. It is that simple.

16. Translation problem
He just thinks "terrorist" is English for "Chechen".

Of course, it's not much better in America, where a lot of people think it's English for "Muslim". Or "liberal".

terrorist groups, and I could certainly see Putin's desire (or one might even sat responsibility) to combat such groups

25. Well, there's two ways of handling terrorism.
Either you develop a siege mentality, crack down on freedom of
movement, and develop civilian KGB-like informers, all of which would
probably be dear to Putin's heart, or you look to the causes.

The west has been exploiting the east for two centuries now - perhaps
it's time to give their land back.
