‘Doonesbury’ comes to aid of Fisher House
Trudeau donating profits from new book to military charity

Love him or hate him, Garry Trudeau, the man responsible for the “Doonesbury” comic strip, is doing his part to help wounded troops and their families.

Trudeau is donating all his proceeds from the sale of his newly released book “The Long Road Home: One Step at a Time” to the Fisher House Foundation. Also, Andrews McMeel Publishing, the book’s publisher, is contributing 10 percent of its take from the book to Fisher House.

Considering that the $9.95 book has been out less than a month and already has sold thousands of copies, the financial benefit for the Fisher House could be substant

Seriously, we own two Doonesbury originals - they're hanging in our living room - going back thirty years. He doesn't sell his originals, but quietly donates them to political causes for sale or auction. Ours came from a gallery that was selling them for the National Women's Political Caucus.

11. Fisher House

is an amazing place. We had to stay at one for awhile a few years back and it help my family get through a difficult time by maintaining a sense of stability. I strongly urge anyone who lives near one to contact them and ask what is needed. Sometimes volunteers provide meals so families don't have to cook.
