WP,pg1: Rove Taking a More Public Role
Rove Taking a More Public Role
Bush Adviser Playing Messenger for Second-Term Agenda

By Dan Balz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, June 26, 2005; Page A01

He has risen to the highest ranks of the White House, carries the title of deputy chief of staff and presides over a broad portfolio of domestic and foreign issues. But even as he has morphed from political operative to policy adviser, Karl Rove retains the instincts of the direct-mail specialist he once was in Texas.

The verbal strike he aimed at liberals and liberalism during a speech to the New York Conservative Party on Wednesday night came straight out of the direct-mail manual: pithy, provocative and designed to energize one side by torching the other.

Rove's flamboyant remarks -- in which he roused conservatives by saying liberals prefer "therapy and understanding" for terrorists instead of retaliation -- has put President Bush's top strategist back on stage. It's a place where he has seemed increasingly comfortable of late....

***

Within the White House, Rove is regarded as a happy warrior, well-liked by colleagues for his humor and ebullient personality. To the opposition, however, Rove's remarks to the New York state Conservative Party last week were simply fresh evidence of why they loathe him. Congressional Democrats, most of whom supported Bush after Sept. 11, 2001, denounced the speech as deceitful and typical of the low-blow tactics they say have marked Rove's career.

What is still unclear is how deliberate Rove was being in prompting an uproar with his comments. With public opinion on Iraq at an ebb and the president preparing to deliver a major speech Tuesday on the subject, Rove's remarks seemed in part an effort to redraw lines to how they were in last year's presidential campaign. Bush succeeded then by casting himself as the embodiment of strength and resolve, and portraying Kerry as the symbol of weakness and vacillation....

5. Yes, or the more people realize how shallow and non-intelligent
Rove actually is. He was better off staying in the shadows.
Let the clown speak, the emperor really does not have any clothes.

3. I saw Bush as pig headed ,ignorant and wrong.
Kerry, I saw as strong and intelligent. In time I think those that voted for Bush will see that his strength was actually stubbornness and his resolve was actually his immaturity not allowing him to admit mistakes or change his mind.
As for Rove, IMO he has only one trick up his sleeves so to speak,- to maintain support for Bush and he attempts to do just that by politicizing 9/11. That was their ticket to Bush's reelection and that is where he has had him most support. I say, we don't let them get away with this tactic any more.

strategy :puke:

just as even the behemoth MS can NOT compete with OPEN-SOURCE neither will the M$MWs be able to compete with the 'blogo-sphere'

the elite will have no choice but to try and censor our collective voices but with the INTERNET it will be impossible.

as we concerned citizens continue to inform ourselves on-line and pass the word we will always be two steps ahead of them on every issue.

that gore and like-minded politicians pushed to have the INTERNET opened to the public shall never be forgotten and always be taken advantage of by us netizens.

to all you evil DU'ers who tirelessly keep us updated and continue to pass the word I salute you :toast:

14. Isn't it Just Amazing...
"He has risen to the highest ranks of the White House, carries the title of deputy chief of staff and presides over a broad portfolio of domestic and foreign issues."

All without 1 vote from the American people. Amazing.

"A happy warrior..." huh! And without ever stepping foot on a battlefield. Again, truly amazing.

Yet, the most truly amazing part of this is where is says "remarks seemed in part an effort to redraw lines to how they were in last year's presidential campaign."

Well, there you go. That "redraw lines," phrase explains it plainly. He's the "Great Divider," along w/his bud, the Chimp.

Nice... real nice. How did Americans vote for this maget?

Oh, he was, and is very deliberate. I work with people who think this ass is just telling it like it is.

Sure, WE know he's full of shit. And I like to think that our ranks are growing. But a lot of folks are convinced that Rove is actually PERCEPTIVE!! Do not think for a minute that this isn't true.

24. Is this report using a lot of loaded language?
Rove's flamboyant remarks...
a happy warrior...
ebullient personality...

I have heard rumors he is gay, not that there's anything wrong with that, other than Republican hypocrisy in his case. It seems like the NYT language is up to something here - maybe a subtle warning to Rove about outing him if he doesn't ease up on "liberals". I am probably reading too much into it though.

25. Well, you know what they say about ships....
when the ship starts to take on water, the rats come out.

There is trouble in Washington. The house of cards is folding. Bush's support is plummeting. The public is getting tired of the bull-crap. Even people like my boss, a die-hard Rat-publican, has had enough. He's told me so.

Their Excellent Iraqi Adventure has hit the skids. People are finally waking up to what a mess it is. Even Bush said "Quagmire?" on thursday.Read my lips, Clown. Q-U-A-G-M-I-R-E, yours.

It's no coincidence that Rove is surfacing just now. The baby-faced fool sees stuff collapsing around him.

(rubs hands together) this is good.

26. Rove learned his trade during the Nixon Administration...LINK inside...
...working for Donald Segretti....

Exposing Karl Rove
<http://www.counterpunch.org/madsen1101.html>

QUOTE:

He's America's Joseph Goebbels. As a 21-year old Young Republican in Texas, Karl Rove not only pimped for Richard Nixon's chief political dirty tricks strategist Donald Segretti but soon caught the eye of the incoming Republican National Committee Chairman, George H. W. Bush. Rove's dirty tricks on behalf of Nixon's 1972 campaign catapulted Rove onto the national stage. From his Eagle's Nest in the West Wing of the White House, Rove now directs a formidable political dirty tricks operation and disinformation mill.

Since his formative political years when he tried to paint World War II B-24 pilot and hero George McGovern as a left-wing peacenik through his mid-level career as a planter of disinformation in the media on behalf of Texas and national GOP candidates to his current role as Dubya's "Svengali," Rove has practiced the same style of slash and burn politics as did his Nixonian mentor Segretti. Many of us remember the Lincolnesque Senator Ed Muskie breaking down in tears during the 1972 campaign over Segretti-planted false stories in a New Hampshire newspaper that accused Mrs. Muskie of being a heavy smoker, drinker, and cusser and accused Muskie of uttering a slur in describing New Hampshire's French Canadian population. Rove's hero also forged letters on fake Muskie campaign letterhead, disrupted rallies and fundraising dinners, and spread false stories about the sex lives of candidates. Segretti's brush also smeared George McGovern, George Wallace, Shirley Chisholm, and McGovern's first vice presidential choice, Senator Tom Eagleton. Segretti of course did not go on to a high-level White House job -- he was sentenced to six months in federal prison for distributing illegal campaign material.

In many respects, however, the apprentice Rove has far exceeded the chicanery and evil-mindedness of his mentor Segretti. Rove is a tech-savvy puppet master for Bush. Take, for example, last June's discovery of a "lost" CD-ROM in Lafayette Park across from the White House. Contained on the CD was a PowerPoint presentation given by White House political director Ken Mehlman to Rove on the strategy for next Tuesday's off-year election. The slide show showed First Brother Jeb Bush being vulnerable in Florida. Jeb Bush later joked that the disc was part of a plot cooked up by him and his brother to make it appear that he was vulnerable in order to rally an otherwise complacent GOP base in the Sunshine State. Or was it a joke? Jeb Bush and his political minions like Katherine Harris have shown us that if anyone thinks what the GOP has done in Florida is funny they have an incredibly sick sense of humor.

36. "Direct Mail Specialist" (THIS ARTICLE IS PURE FUCKING PROPOGANDA GARBAGE)
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 11:39 AM by Beetwasher
Oh brother. This article is such a piece of shit I don't even know where to begin.

Direct mail specialist???? They make it sound like he was sending out coupon packs. He was political operative responsible for mailing material containing the most outrageous smears.

His vile comment meant to divide and smear they call "pithy"! "Provocative"! "Designed to energize"! :wtf:?????

His remarks are "flamboyant"! He's on stage and "comfortable"

"Within the White House, Rove is regarded as a happy warrior, well-liked by colleagues for his humor and ebullient personality." :puke:!!!!!!!!!!!

And about halfway to China we finally have the Dems response to Herr Rove, framed, of course, as a result of Dems "loathing" of Rove. IOW, not really justified, because Rove is so "ebullient", I'm sure. :eyes:

Dana Balz, you get whore of the week from me. BALZ is appropriate, since it seems you enjoy licking Herr Rove's.
