Dean Holds 10-Point Lead Over Kerry in New Hampshire; Clark in Single Digits
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - Howard Dean maintains a double-digit lead over rival John Kerry in a New Hampshire poll of likely voters in the state's Democratic presidential primary.

The poll by American Research Group of Manchester, N.H., showed Dean, the former Vermont governor, leading Massachusetts Sen. Kerry, 29 percent to 19 percent. The remaining candidates, including newcomer Wesley Clark, were in the single digits, and 29 percent remained undecided.

Dean held a 10-point lead over Kerry in the group's September poll. Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri and Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut received 6 percent support, Clark 5 percent and Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina 3 percent. Carol Moseley Braun and Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio were at 1 percent and Al Sharpton zero percent. While nine in 10 in the poll said they were aware of Clark, almost half of the sample said they don't know enough about him to form an opinion. Clark, the retired Army general, was at 2 percent in the September poll. <snip>

(as an aside - in Ky we appear to have a tie - GOP Rep. Ernie Fletcher versus Dem Democrat Ben Chandler in the race for Kentucky's governor - got to be positive!)

1. Nice to see...
...of course, in the P&C forum, this same thread will be titled "Kerry voters giving Dean false sense of security"

2. I wonder when the General will make his surge there, and from which...
other candidate(s) his support will come.

I also wonder when the top tier will tighten up. I fully expect his primary to come down to a spread of no more than 5 percentage points between Gov. Dean & Sen. Kerry. I'm shocked that it hasn't begun to tighten already, especially with Kerry's endless outspoken bashing of Dean.

3. Kerrys Bashing
Kerrys Bashing of Dean may be the reason he is not getting big points, he is acting like a sore loser already....I hate to see this with fellow Democrats... As far as Clark, I am hearing that the fact he entered the race this late and still doesn't even have a plan is not a big draw. One response was if he doesn't know what he believes at this point why should we believe anything he comes up with now?

GO DEAN:kick:

4. Dean, dean, dean, dean, dean.
This is heartening to see.. as a Dean supporter. I hope that writing that doesn't get me attacked here on DU. I've been absent here for months because of the attacks around here, every time someone voices support for their candidate.

I'm sure that Kerry is flummoxed by the way the DNC and DLC have shined him on in favor of Clark.. their "un-Dean" candidate. They were reportedly searching for someone to usurp Dean's popularity and momentum. Clark doesn't seem to be catching fire, as they had hoped. Kerry is still in there, battling it out.

I spent an hour or so yesterday watching a DVD I ordred on DemStore. It was all about Howard Dean. I had supported him for months, even donating $50.00, which I had never done before (I usually give my time instead). This was the first chance I had to really sit down and listen to what he was saying. When he said, in his stump speech in San Francisco, that he was tired of 'Fundamentalist preachers and conservative right wing talk show hosts telling him what to do' I jumped up and screamed with delight!! Someone was actually saying it!! FINALLY!! His description of the civil union bill as a civil rights issue was perfect. I have researched the other candidates, and they just haven't resonated with me, as Dean has. No amount of attacks from either party will make someone turn against their candidate.. didn't we just experience that in California this week??

When Clark came into the race, I spent a few days checking him out. There was nothing that really sparked an interest for me. Nothing he said really did it, nor any of his experience... even his military experience. He would make a great Secretary of State, but his domestic interest and experience didn't move me. I think that's why Governors are so popular as presidential candidates.

I will support whomever gets the nomination. Let the best Democrat win!

5. Caliphoto, deja vu on the San Fran Speech
That was my break point, where I said "that's it, he's my guy."

BTW- It's going to be damn hard for Geph, Lieberman, Edwards,
or Clark to spin a third place finish, given the difference b/w
second and third place.

7. it's coming
just be patient. Remember, John stalked the Vietcong silently and with patience. He's doing the same to Dean.

:)

I hope.
