Bush launching campaign to defend Iraq war
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N07237827.htm

WASHINGTON, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Facing growing doubts at home about the wisdom of attacking Iraq, President George W. Bush on Wednesday will launch a campaign to defend the U.S. invasion and cite progress being made even as U.S. troops face almost daily attacks.

The attempt to gain control of the Iraq debate comes as Bush's job approval ratings have been falling and the White House has been on the defensive over a leak investigation and failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Two senior administration officials said on Tuesday the campaign will begin with a Chicago speech by national security adviser Condoleezza Rice and continue on Wednesday in speeches by Bush in New Hampshire and Kentucky. And on Friday Vice President Dick Cheney will deliver a speech in Washington.

The campaign coincides with the six-month anniversary of the fall of Saddam Hussein, a period marked by daily guerrilla attacks on U.S. forces and complaints from Iraqis about the slow transition to Iraqi self-rule from U.S. control.

1. Oh goody
More lies trying to sell us their version of "success" of an illegal invasion. What percentage of the populace will buy this new pack of lies?

3. Notice he waited until the day after Arnold?
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 10:10 PM by Democat
Obviously the White House had the entire media on full "promote Arnold" duty.

Now that they have done their best to overthrow the government of California, they can get back to defending and spinning for Bush.

5. The fact that he has to launch a PR campaign is telling.
The $64,000 question is:

Will the American people fail to see the irony?

10. On the subject of irony...
...and Americans, two things spring to mind.

As a friend likes to remark, we are ruled by people who don't find Dr. Strangelove funny.

And I cannot forget that in the hours after 9/11 when the enormity of shock was being transformed into the truncheon of obedient conformity, voices shrilly declaring irony dead were among the first to help shape the New Order. I particularly remember Roger Rosenblatt railing against irony in Time; well, one as deadly dull as Rosenblatt would, wouldn't he. But soon there was a chorus...

Poor America! You really don't deserve the creeps at your helm or the dunces hired to wallpaper your media!

13. Oh boy! He's Going To UNITE Us Again!
Y'know, WhistleAss is not the type who is accustomed to being questioned on anything. As a member of the Ruling Class, his word is law; he does not explain. It is beneath him to tell the Subjects why he does anything. We're supposed to hear and obey.

Now, His Majesty has to go before the Great Unwashed and defend his decision. How bad must things really be for his handlers to set such an odious task for him! At every appearance, the peasants will wonder if the Emperor has been sucking lemons. They will marvel at his fine clothes.

Last night
I saw a fire burning on
The palace lawn
O'er the land
The humble subjects watched in mixed
Emotion

Chorus:
Who is burnin' ?
Who is burnin' ?
Effigy

14. All this means...
is that Bush* and his co-conspiriters will attempt to reign in the good-puppy press for a more "warm and fuzzy look". Probably lots of human interest stories and if there is any way that they can "sanitize" or even withold the ugly details about American deaths over there, this bunch of traitors will find it.

15. He's really snapped. He's turned into Captain Queeg.
Ah, but the strawberries! That's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with geometric logic, that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox did exist! And I'd have produced that key if they hadn't pulled Caine out of action! I-I-I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officer and!......(realizes he has been ranting, babbling)

16. They're actually treating the public like their "enemy"
Plotting, scheming, conducting tours to lay out their propaganda, finding new ways to make us buy the lies we wouldn't accept before....

I hope this new effort backfires on them BIG TIME by October 25, and the March on Washington. Hope a multitude turns out to share with them how we appreciate their efforts to deceive us.

19. Many people will buy it
Valerie Plame will be just another person falling down the memory hole . Bush will be repackaged to fool his perceived enemies--the American people-- this time perhaps he will astound everyone by parachuting onto a hospital ship full of babies and children. We will be subjected to more lies and more lies as the CEO's take to the stage and churn out the photos that will tell Americans they have strong leaders indeed--hubby tells me that on yesterday's Washington Journal, more than one person called in to say they thought Bush and Blair should receive the Nobel Peace Prize -- :eyes: :puke: :crazy:the entire Bush admin is a scam sell---complete with shill, two of them, on the sideline. This is what is so frustrating to those who can reason and are not sold a bill of goods that is a lie--

26. Well, if they are OUT there doing these PR gigs then the press
will have to cover those and NOT the Wilsongate LEAK! Also, interesting to me that they have this all scheduled and planned out like there is no investigation or any possibility that anything might change in the near future regarding someone in the WHorehouse not being able to make these appearances... hmmmm

I agree...Bush is a fraud...his taking of this pResidency has been a scam from day one. He is the front man and while everyone was busy oooing and ahhhing, the crooks were working behind the scenes.

Look at all of his businesses and all of their failings...ALL scams!

The question that remains is this...Will we come out with anything worth living for and any resources to help start the light of truth and justice burning again not only for our country but for the world?

25. Another excuse for big-buck fundraising on the rubber chicken circuit
Does anyone - ANYONE - at the White House seriously think that people are going to give a shit about Operation Endless Bullshit, Phase VII?

Not when the layoffs continue right and left, despite all the happy-spin from OMB, Commerce and uber-whore Lou Dobbs.

Not when our soldiers in Iraq are eating one meal a day.

Not when Osama, Saddam, the anthrax killer and the oh-so-elusive WMDs remain unlocated.

Not when two or three or five or six of our men and women are dying every week for Halliburton and Bechtel.

Not when a two-day e-mail dump by the White House is passed off by ChimpCo as proof that no one at 1600 was involved in exposing Valerie Plame.

George, no one gives a shit. No one cares about your incoherent, lumpy verbal diarrhea. Condi, no one cares about you being "in charge" of Iraq now. Dick, no one cares about your bullshit assertions of "intent", "reconstitution of weapons systems" or "threats". I guess you might say, Dick (and I do mean Dick) that we all have other priorities now. Why don't you all just collectively STFU and have your buddies mail their checks to the RNC. You'd save time, we'd save money.

Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 06:58 PM by Kool Kitty
Is this being done because the misadministration feels that the media is only reporting the "bad news"? (And I am sure that what are already getting has been filtered, so it must be REAL bad.) Does this mean that all the news is going to get even more filtered (read:CENSORED)? I find this new "charm offensive" simply, well, offensive!
