Governing Council rejects Turkish troops in Iraq: council member
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraq (news - web sites)'s US-backed Governing Council unanimously rejects the sending of Turkish troops to the country, council member Mahmud Othman told AFP.

"The council is unanimous in issuing a communique against the sending of Turkish forces to Iraq. It is the wrong thing to do. It does not add to security. It is not useful," said Othman, whose Kurdish ethnic group has a long history of bad blood with the Turks.

"This is our (the council's) position and it is unanimous."

Turkish MPs on Tuesday began debating the government motion behind closed doors and were expected to take a vote later in the day.

6. The regime will deploy its Turkish and Israeli troops where it chooses

Troop deployment decisions are made by the regime, not by the natives of a target nation.

7. This would seem to suggest
that these Turkish troops are going to be stationed in Northern Iraq.

8. And here I always thought that the Turks and the Kurds hated each other...
...more than they hated Saddam? Looks like they are about to become bosom buddies real soon. I must have been mistaken?

9. The Turkish troops will be initially deployed to kill the Kurds

This is why there is so little enthusiasm for the idea in Kurdistan.

The US has been assisting Turkey in killing Kurds for decades, at the moment, the bush regime wishes to free up US troops to kill Iraqis in other parts of the country, and wishes to continue to use Turkish resources as they do Israeli ones, so they have granted this boon to Turkey.
