Wash. Judge to Rule on Governor Election
After watching Washington state's entire nine-day election challenge trial, resident Bill Stokes isn't sure what the final verdict will be. But Stokes, a retired state employee, hopes the trial prompts some changes, even if Republican Dino Rossi doesn't win his bid to nullify the election of Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire.

"We've got to get an election process we can trust," said Stokes, 67.

Chelan County Superior Court Judge John Bridges was expected to rule Monday on the Republicans' challenge to the 2004 governor's election.

If Bridges agrees with Republicans that the election was invalid, he could either declare Rossi the winner outright or simply nullify the 2004 outcome, setting the stage for a new election in the fall.

1. We HAVE an election process we can trust here in this state.

Makes me ILL the way the Republicans mobilized to legitimize the election process here, while the cowardly little Democrats here slunked off quietly to their corner to wait it out.

This scene is replayed daily all over America. The republicans mobilize, print bumper stickers, hold press conferences, and the Democrats.. they.. uh.. play fair and wait for a ruling.

WHERE IS THE DNC?? We're in danger of losing our Democratic Governor in a State where it shouldn't even be CLOSE!! But... instead we're left to deal with the public opinion and a small town judge who have all been influenced by the mobilization of the republican party.

ON EDIT.. and CHELAN COUNTY IS ABOUT AS REPUBLICAN AS IT GETS. We're screwed.

3. Every felon or dead person vote so far has been for Rossi!
They read that in the beginning of the 'decision', which I don't think is ever going to be announced.

Also, FYI, the openly-gay Libertarian candidate probably took a lot of votes that might otherwise have gone for Gregoire - which shrank her lead. If they hold a new election, that is a huge wildcard.

4. Democracy prevails
Thugs lose. They should be made to pay all costs and have to set out the next election.

8. "This election must not be set aside"
No evidence of fraud and no evidence that Gregoire received any illegal votes.

On to the state Supreme Court...

b_b

P.S. Judge Bridges was outstanding.

13. Sheesh. Have they no pride???
Good luck with our Supreme Court here, they don't seem the type to give it up for Rossi, unless that POS is being encouraged, by the Bush gang, to get it to the US Supreme Court. Wouldn't that be ironic? Funny how none of the republicans notice that Rossi won't give up, and yet they harrassed Gore mercilessly for defending himself...

15. So Rossi loses again?
The lawsuit was really a Hail Mary thing anyway. From what I read, they put on evidence of a "statistical" analysis of fraudulent votes and their conclusions about what those votes might have been. The bar to overturn election results is very high, and the kind of direct evidence needed (these votes were fraudulently cast, elections officials knew they were fraudulent, and the election turned on those fraudulent ballots) just wasn't there.

Chances of an appeal succeeding are vanishingly small if the three-linked evidence chain wasn't presented in the trial court.

Get over it Dino.
