Mrs. Bush Endorses Mubarak Election Plan
First lady Laura Bush on Monday endorsed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's plan for presidential elections as "bold and wise" despite complaints from opposition groups that the voting is designed to keep Mubarak in power.

"I would say that President Mubarak has taken a very bold step. He's taking the first step to open up the elections and I think that's very, very important," Mrs. Bush said. She spent a day in Egypt, much of the time with Egyptian first lady Suzanne Mubarak.

Speaking to reporters in front of the Giza pyramids, Mrs. Bush noted that the United States' democracy also took time to fully develop.

"As you know, you have to be slow as you do each of these steps," Mrs. Bush said. "You know that each step is a small step, that you can't be quick."

2. What would be amusing is
if they were attempting to turn Laura into a political heavyweight like Hillary. That would be a debate I'd like to see.

was such a charmer.....

If this were Hillary she'd be accused of interfering and overstepping her role as First Lady...

I'm sure the opposition will appreciate this (not)...but, maybe that's the secret plan...inflame the opposition and lead Egypt into chaos...Mubarak is no prize...but if we open up yet another void in the ME...sigh

7. here. have a nice cuppa STFU, laura!
Is there some valid reason why the first lady is attempting diplomacy? how short is the short list of candidates to be sent to repair mideast problems?

apparently very short. anyone who's slept with Bush. So, next week, look for Gannon/Guckert and Victor Ashe to draft a nuclear proliferation treaty with N. Korea.

16. Phew! I was really worried she wasn't going to endorse a plan
that is really none of her business. I'm sure Mubarak was sweating it, too.
