Howard Dean reappears on national television
KRT) - He speaks!

Howard Dean, so loquacious as a presidential candidate in 2004, has largely dodged the national limelight as Democratic chairman in 2005. But in his 99th day on the job, the pugilistic darling of the liberal wing finally resurfaced on national TV Sunday - and promptly buttressed his reputation for lobbing rhetorical grenades.

He said that the Hammer will probably wind up in the slammer.

He said that even though the owner of that nickname, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, has not been charged with any crime in any criminal court.

On NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, host Tim Russert asked Dean about a quip he made on May 14, when he told Massachusetts Democrats that DeLay, the powerful Texas Republican who has been rebuked by colleagues for ethics violations, "ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence down there." Was it fair, Russert asked, to convict a man who hasn't been charged with anything?

6. You mean because of crap like
this?

"Dean's explanation Sunday: "When you go into a state for four or five hours, it's pretty hard for governors to change their schedule," omitting the fact that his itinerary is generally planned with sufficient advance notice.

In all likelihood, these governors were AWOL because there's still a belief that Dean, the New Englander who calls the GOP agenda "evil," is not necessarily the best party messenger."

And by the way..toadie dick polman..the gop agenda is "EVIL"!

7. I agree he seemed to be a bit on Dean's case, but perhaps that's

good for us since Dean doesn't seem to have a problem defending his previous statements. I'm sure the repugs will rake him over the coals for what he said, but I'm glad he did. It's time someone isn't too damn timid to speak his/her mind. Let the chips fall where they may. People of all persuasions need to hear a strong voice for what we believe in and I think he did a grand job articulating those values. But I do hope that he will read the email that I sent to him that has the letter that Bush sent to Congress asking them to declare war on Iraq stating that they were complicit in the attacks on 9/11. He said that Bush has only implied that, but he didn't actually state that. I think he did even though a poster earlier said the jargon was Bush's "quibble and wiggle" on the issue. To me it's very plain that he said Iraq was involved in the attacks.

4. Well, we are stuck with the horses asses
for media access. It's all in how we handle ourselves and get the message out. We, the Democrats, need to organize our talking points and stay on message. Thats our biggest obstacle. Dean did great. He's in command of his message.

8. Told ya. And people wonder why Dean doesn't appear on more shows.
Edited on Sun May-22-05 06:29 PM by Carolab
NOW do you know why?

Tim was just gunning for him. EVERYthing he brought up was a negative. It was like watching a witness testifying on the stand.

What a jerk. I'm going to write him a nasty note asking him why he couldn't find something POSITIVE to talk about with Dean?

15. Here's what I wrote to TIMMAH
Re: Your "interview" with Howard Dean. Seriously, Tim, go back and read your list of questions again. It was like watching an attorney grill a witness. Is that what you call a fair and balanced interview? It will be "amusing" to see what kind of "tough questions" you lob at Ken Mehlman...or will you be asking them more in the journalistic style of Jeff Gannon?

12. Is everyone still donating to the Dems?
Maybe we need to pick it up a bit. We should have a big banner button for it up top.

13. Dick Polman is a Political COLUMNIST, not a reporter!
Such columns really shouldn't be regarded as 'news' ... they're OPINION pieces and often paid propaganda.

people. Time to write the editor.

18. The most wonderful thing-
Tim attacked remorselessly for the entire session and Dean riposted beautifully!

The old saw that any press is good press was certainly true, today.

19. I agree Dean didn't back down and didn't blow his cool
On the whole a good job in the face of a relentlessly antagonistic interviewer.

I'd love to see him be as tough with Ken Mehlman. I'd also love to see pigs fly and the demons in hell walking around in parkas because of the cold snap.

21. Dean really gets their blood boiling, don't he? I like it.
I'm glad they're pissed.

I haven't seen MTP yet (replay up very soon), so I hope Dean handled himself well, but it just kills me how the media/right wing go after Dean whenever he dares speak his mind. or show emotion.

What the media did with that "scream" moment was shameful and, in my opinion, criminal (or should be). I'll never forget that.

I think Dean knows these clowns are gonna read him that way, and try to portray him that way. I think he taunts them. I hope he's taunting them.

FUTR.
