With Kurds' Success in Iraq, Some Iranian Kurds Itching to Resume Fight in
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBB89FJ19E.html

QANDIL MOUNTAIN RANGE, Iraq (AP) - Some 200 Iranian Kurds marched in single file up an icy mountain path, carrying automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. They were training for the day when they hope to cross the nearby Iraqi border into Iran, recruit supporters and reopen a rebellion they reluctantly abandoned long ago.

After more than 20 years of calm, fighters based in northern Iraq are itching to resume the Iranian Kurds' campaign for greater autonomy, emboldened by the success of their brethren in post-Saddam Iraq.

"We want to break the peace we were forced to accept," Piryar Gabary told an Associated Press reporter visiting Qandil Mountain, the group's base in northeast Iraq.

Such talk, however, doesn't sit well with the Iraqi Kurdish leadership, which is wary of provoking Iran and disturbing its new stature in Iraq's government and has vowed to prevent cross-border attacks.

KURDS PREPARE FOR GUERRILLA WAR IN IRAN
By Phil Sands, Staff Reporter

Near Sulaimaniya, Iraq: Kurdish fighters dedicated to overthrowing the Iranian Government are hiding out in the mountains of northern Iraq, waiting for a chance to strike at Tehran.

Gulf News gained exclusive access to the militiamen as they trained for a full-scale guerrilla war that could send shockwaves through the region.

Rebel leader Ebrahim Alizada said: "Our armed struggle began in Iranian Kurdistan and will continue until we have freedom."

The fighters are members of Komala, a group of militant socialist Kurds dedicated to bringing down Tehran. Hundreds of young men and women armed with AK47 rifles, machine guns and RPGs are training in northern Iraq for this mission.

Many more are based across the border and group leaders say the rebels are already carrying out "covert actions" in Iran.

END

I have posted other articles...which seem to say that the US is training them....I can't find the other one..which said something like 20,000 are going to be trained and the first group is training now...

US PREPARES KURDS AND AZERBAIJANIS AGAINST IRAN
Musa Stone

The crisis provoked by the desire of Washington to let Iran develop its nuclear program makes many analysts predict the gravest consequences of the American-Iranian confrontation.

However, although the United States openly threatens Iran with military intervention, Tehran, to all appearances, does not intend to submit to blackmail.

(SNIP)

Against the background of diplomatic efforts initiated by Washington to blockade the nuclear program of Tehran, the Pentagon and CIA proceed with preparations for possible war against Iran. A few days before it became known that the leaders of Azerbaijani groupings -- the adversaries of Tehran were hastily summoned to Washington, reported Turkish CNN.

According to the information of the same TV channel, referring to the Azeri APA agency, the United States are training 20 thousand Kurds in Iraq, in the camps arranged in the territories under the control of Jalal Talabani. The training is aimed at involving the units of Kurd soldiers in the struggle against the Irani regime.

According to the CNN-Turk, the trainings are carried out with the participation of the Kurd fighters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey.

4. Earth to Kurds!
The Shias in Iraq won't let you split the country apart.

The Iranians won't let you do the same in Iran.

The Turks won't let you declare an independent state in Iraq or in Iran.

The US will turn its back on you, as it has done before when you were no longer useful.

The best you can hope for is for some autonomy and minority rights guarantee for yourselves. BTW, it doesn't help you at all when you go around making enemies of Sunnis, Shias, and Turkmen in Northern Iraq. It helps even less to associate with known ultra-nationalist Kurds based in Turkey.

You have limited options of which independence is not one of them. Don't overplay your hand!

Edited on Sun May-22-05 06:45 PM by LynnTheDem
The Kurds have been in civil war against the Kurds, the PDK (Talabani) against the KDP (Barazani) for THIRTY YEARS until 2002!

The Turks and the Kurds (Iraq & Iran) have been fighting and killing each other all that time...and still are!
