US to penalize defiant states: Exemption from ICC jurisdiction
US to penalize defiant states: Exemption from ICC jurisdiction

WASHINGTON: Countries that refuse to exempt US citizens and soldiers from the jurisdiction of the new International Criminal Court (ICC) could lose almost 90 million dollars in military aid from the United States in fiscal year 2004.

<snip>

Among them were a number of new democracies in Central and East Europe, some of which have contributed troops to bolster the US-led occupation in Iraq. Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, South Africa, and a number of other Latin American and African countries, were also on the list.

<snip>

Former President Bill Clinton signed the Rome Statute in December 2000, just a few weeks before Bush became president. In May of last year, the administration renounced Clinton's signature and withdrew from all negotiations to set up the ICC.

1. One has to be very careful when cutting aid...
because it usually leaves the door open for a rival to provide it. Ask the Indonesians about their new friend Mr Putin.

2. right...
and a lot of that 'military aid' is mostly anti-drug operations. That means that probably drug smuggling will increase and they won't like that either.

3. Do you really think that bu$hy&co are that smart?
I don't. Those 'people' (being nice here) are so out to lunch as to reality in the real world.
I hope this WH leak scandle leads back to 9/11. Wouldn't that be nice. Firing squad(s) at sunrise anyone?
