Questions on NAACP ... influenced by Nazi past of father
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/10/03/HUFFMAN.TMP

The California president of the NAACP is under fire for a speech she gave in San Francisco this week accusing Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger of having racist views that were shaped by his father's membership in the Nazi party.

Alice Huffman, a longtime civil rights activist who was recently named by Gov. Gray Davis to the California State University Board of Trustees, told a group of attorneys Tuesday that Schwarzenegger's TV ads attacking campaign donations by Indian tribes are an example of racism.

"There are a few people in this world that still believe that white men born in America are superior," she said. "If you want a live example . . . all you have to do is tune into the recall election and you will hear Arnold Schwarzenegger."

Huffman, president of California's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, referred to the actor's father, who was a member of the Nazi party in Austria. She said the GOP front-runner in the recall race was influenced by Nazi views about Jews and other minorities.

1. I agree with her --
of all the people to go after, it galls me the way Arnerd goes after Indians -- God, if there's one group in the world who need a break it's the indigenous people of this continent. The way he goes on about their paying their 'fair share' -- shame on him. They are a sovereign people and we can no more tax them than we could tax another state. That they've agreed to pay us anything is actually due to hard negotiated by the normally mild mannered Davis. God, I beg you to save us from these fools.

He should ask the rich bastards funding his campaign to pony up and pay their fair share -- they pay a lower rate of tax than the poor do in this state.

2. agreed
Grand standing against native american sovereignty
is a disgusting racist tactic. Was in not enough
to take that whole continent from them and push them
on to the worst lands. Then against all odds a way
to make money is found and Arnold grudges them that
small advantage.

3. Not wanting to excuse the great strudel but
during the early 30's wasn't being in the Nazi party quite common, not so much an expression of beliefs but a way to "network" with politicans and business people etc. I could be completely and totally wrong of course but I thought it was a bit like the Baath party, being a rank and file member doesn't really mean that you supported Saddam or that you were an apparatchik - it was just something everyone did. I don't know much about arnies dad though so if he was a card carrying nazi - apologies.

Also did he really say the native americans should "pay their share" I would have thought if that was the case they could ask for their share of the country back

6. Normally, this would be correct.
However (check the other threads for this), Gustav S. volunteered to be a brownshirt after atrocities were already being committed.

At the very, very least, that certainly shows horrific judgement on ol' Gustav's part. And that's being charitable.

7. Emillereid was right
Here's an article pointing out why "fair share" is a vile remark:

(snip) Tribal leaders fire back at Schwarzenegger over 'fair share' ad

ASSOCIATED PRESS

September 25, 2003

RIVERSIDE – Tribal leaders, stung by Arnold Schwarzenegger's criticism of their financial support for his political rivals, said the gubernatorial candidate got it wrong, that they do their fair share to help California's economy.

"He needs to do his homework. This is all new to him," said Michael Lombardi, chairman of the gaming commission for the Augustine Casino near Coachella. "We are paying our fair share."

In an ad criticizing other candidates for taking money from Indian gambling interests, Schwarzenegger says of the tribes: "Their casinos make billions, yet pay no taxes and virtually nothing to the state. ... It's time for them to pay their fair share."

5. Arnold SchwarzeNazi - equal-opportunity asshole.
He probably doesn't care that Native Americans (including my maternal great-greatgrandparents) were slaughtered by Whitey.

Thanks, Arnold. You sure are the "people's governor" - as long as they're WHITE people.

12. Nothing like making
a little racist comment of your own, is there? "...were slaughtered by Whitey."

When are we EVER going to stop the name calling?

8. Well, not only was the mans father a nazi...
...but the son of a bitch admired Hitler for his ability to stand in a stadium and have "everyone agree and cheer for everything he says". That's a damned example of a man who should be kept away from the seats of power, the children, and a frickin microphone.

Why is this person under fire for stating the obvious? The sheets have been found in the GOP closet, and they are stained with blood and tears and human misery. In twenty years time, will those who were GOP and "GOP-appeasers" be despised as much as the Nazi's and the Baathists? I sure as hell hope so, they've proven to be HORRIBLE for this country, and this world.

9. after a bit more reading
it does appear that Arnold's dad was in it for a bit more than the connections - to support the Nazi's before Kristalnacht is awfully hard to justify to do so after is impossible

10. what a piece of shit...
How dare he(or anyone else for that matter)express his opinions of who needs to give more to the state of CA. That punk ass and all of his buddies dont pay there fair share. You have to have some mighty big balls, or be a complete idiot to make a comment like that. Im leaning towards the latter.
