Rumsfeld Seeks Leaner Army and Full Term as Defense Secretary -NYT
snip>
"I don't think of myself as a short-timer," said Mr. Rumsfeld, who turns 73 in July.
...
In an interview, Mr. Rumsfeld compared the Pentagon he inherited to a factory where there were "conveyor belts going by and they were loaded four, five, six years ago, and they were not connected with each other." He said budgets did not fit weapons, which did not fit strategy.
...
Even his sharpest critics - generals and admirals who have endured the wire-brush treatment of his relentless questioning, and senior civilians across the executive branch who have fought bitter internal battles with Mr. Rumsfeld and his policy proxies - agree that he got one thing right: Mr. Rumsfeld is forcing the Department of Defense to think about warfare differently and, just as important, to think in new ways about its daily business practices.

Gen. Richard B. Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in an interview, "There is not a D.O.D. process of any sort that we haven't turned on its ear in the past four years."

3. He's a success so far. . .
With the way he's treated the military during his exemplary tenure as Secretary of Defense, he'll have no problem with the "leaner military" part! Nobody is fool enough to go into the military as evidenced by the declining numbers signing up each month that result in the military not meeting its goals. . . .

4. When I hear statements like this made, he's getting the can soon...
It just seems funny, anytime one of morons "butt buddy's" states something along the lines of "I'm not a quitter", "I have a long career ahead of me", or like rumspuke, "I don't think of myself as a short-timer", you can bet that those who he has to answer to think he's a short timer.

Just one of the many swan songs of the idiots in this phony admin.

It's just a feeling but I have heard this song before.

Then suddenly in a few weeks or months, he will announce that he wants to spend more time with his family, aka he got shit canned.

11. I pray
that you are right, Javam. Let's hope so.

Believe it or not, I called the White House last summer and ranted about RumsFailed. Imagine that - adorable me, calling the WH and railing about this man. Just goes to show how I really feel about him.

5. Much of the military is leaner under Rumsfeld
Thousands have lost as much 100% of their body weight. Tens of thousands of others have lost substantial fractions of their weight - legs, arms, etc.

6. Rummy is insane - a flesh eating ghoul!
He just farted out a hint that Cheney ain't going anywhere in 2008! Rummy the Dummy is to fucking stupid to keep his mouth shut. Just look at the cluster fuck in Iraq! He INHERITED the Pentagon? Lord Jebuz Almighty!

Factories...with soldiers on conveyor belts...being dumped into crates and airdropped into Iraq like food for wolves. All at a decent profit margin!

7. PBS Frontline Documentary - Rumsfeld's War
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/pentagon/

In "Rumsfeld's War," FRONTLINE and The Washington Post join forces for the first time to investigate Donald Rumsfeld's contentious battle with the Pentagon bureaucracy to assert civilian control of the military and remake the way America fights.

This report traces Donald Rumsfeld's career from his time as an adviser to President Nixon to his rise as the oft-seen and well-known face of the George W. Bush administration during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In interviews with key administration officials, military leaders, and reporters from The Washington Post, the documentary examines how a secretary of defense bent on reform became a secretary of war accused of ignoring the advice of his generals.

That documentary says it all.

8. And no one notices he doesn't know
what he's doing! Could his planning in Iraq been any worse? How could a military stratigist not know that the Syrian border needed watching. During the first days of our attack on Iraq journalist were interviewing young men on a bus from syria to iraq and was told by the travelers that they were going to help Iraq defend against us. What did we do? Nothing, the bus headed for Iraq. The terrorist they are accusing of being the mastermind of the insurgents was a known factor before the war, knew where the camp was and did nothing about it. Matter of fact he was the only known terrorist in Iraq.
