6. There can't be many stories that I like that push Bush out
of the spotlight when the shit is hitting the fan, but this is one of them.

Rush is a MAJOR piece of the entire RW propaganda machine. This damages their plans past Bush and Jebbie.

14. there is no way they planned this
Rush Limbaugh is one of their most powerful propaganda machines. His downfall will demoralize and alienate their base (particularly on a drug charge). This is a huge disaster for the right-wing if this story holds up.

15. It's not a distraction. It just compounds the problems for Bush. It's like
the media protection and the veneer of morality is crumbling around him. Rush is the biggest mouthpiece for this administration, and now he's going to be distracted by having to address a problem like this.

Of course, if he gets Jeb Bush to adopt him, maybe they can sweep it under the carpet like they do for Jeb's other kids.

19. Well....
.... I kinda doubt that. I don't think that bringing Rush down is in the interest of the repugs. I don't think they had much say in this.

And, I can handle two stories at once, and I think the news can too. The traitorgate scandal is not going to fall down the memory hole that easily IMHO.

30. I'm with the rest of them in thinking this isn't a distraction, BUT
IF IT IS...

Then that means we're getting close to the top...MUCH closer than we had imagined. The RW wouldn't have given up a faithful servant like Rush unless there was no other choice.

Either way--distraction or disaster--it's horriffic for the RW.

No, I think it's more likely that there is a movenment to throw a broad net over this regime and it's footmen....and it is succeeding.

But it's always good to keep peripheral vision when a big story hits because some opportunists will inevitably use it to their advantage and pick our pockets while we're watching the parade go by. Pick pockets and corrupt politicians are opportunistic more than big planners.

There's no way they want this in the WH. This just points to the intellectual dishonesty of neoconservatism. Limbaugh taking big heat will not distract from the problems at 1600. It will exacerbate them, since Rush was their most well-known cheerleader.

The guilt by association tag is a hard one to shake, and they know it.

Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 09:33 AM by Hokies_Against_Bush
I have not seen this reported on CNN at all this morning. It is obvious now that Rush quit ESPN because he knew this was going to hit the fan soon.

I think the NFL also put pressure on ESPN to fire him. The folks in the league office were surely pissed over this. They have had their own porblens trying to put the race issue behind them and they certainly did not want this in the headlines the rest of the season.

On edit:

Just saw the breaking news on CNN. Sounds like they do have the goods on poor Bush Bimbo.

13. Considering the numbers of pills reported...
Can you comment on whether SoFla authorities will be pursuing charges along the lines of "possession with intent to distribute" or something similar?

In this day and age, getting caught with 4 ozs of weed will get you that charge. In fact, getting caught with 2 JOINTS, in the state of NJ has gotten some people that charge, as a lever in plea bargaining. Just pile the charges on and let the lawyers sort it out with the judge. PID would seem to be quite appropriate in light of the reports of 5000+ pills over a month.5 period.

In Virginia plastic sandwich bags in your domecile will get you "intent to distribute". No scales need to be present.

I new a guy who got busted with 1/2 a joint about ten years ago. Intent was tacked on because of the baggies and he lost his driver's license (he was in his girlfriend's apartment)for a year and had to go to alcoholics classes (In va. called ASAP). He could only drive (legally) to work, church, or meetings.

21. Ordinarily, I'm not one to take pleasure....
in others misfortunes, but damn....this sure is fun.

And 4300 pills? in 47 days? That's an insane amount of drugs. I promise you, he wasn't taking them all himself....if that amount is right, it would be criminal of the authorities not to charge him with distribution, although I doubt of course, that he was mixed up in selling them....so what was he doing with them?

And since the National Enquirer got sued awhile back and lost a ton of money, they are far more careful about what they say....I'd be willing to bet that much of this actually has merit.

I have long believed that he was using drugs in addition to cosmetic surgery to get the weight off. Painkillers without speed or coke and he would have blimped back up to goodyear size.

I just think it is so telling that when he found out about his damn housekeeper's husband pain, his only thought was how to lean on this lady to steal her husband's drugs.

Conservative compassion in action.

<awaits Jebbie to step in and grease someone's palms> I just can't see it happening here in Florida with Jebbie on board. After all, he did get his big bro the pResidency illegally. I think he can clear Limpey of this rather easily.

54. YAHOO LINK ...HE'S DOWN AND OUT...
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/kr/20031002/lo_krnewyork/rushlimbaughinpillprobe

In June 2002, Limbaugh told her he was going to New York for detox a second time.

After he returned, "I went to talk to him, and he cried a little bit," she said. "He told me that if it ever got out, he would be ruined."

She claimed that a lawyer for Limbaugh gave her a payoff - $80,000 he owed her, plus another $120,000 - and asked her to destroy the computer that contained the E-mail records.

67. This is the NY Daily News story--Thanks, Oregonne
I've been trying to get into the NY Daily News site all morning--the hits must be strafing their server.

Well, it's pretty straighforward--and undeniably damning.

It started (in 1998) after (housekeeper Wilma Cline's) husband...hurt himself in a fall, and Limbaugh asked...casually, 'Is he getting any pain medication?' I said, "'...the doctor gave him hydrocodone'...To my astonishment, he said, 'Can you spare a couple of them?'"...When the doctor stopped renewing the prescription in early 1999, Limbaugh allegedly went ballistic...

In one (e-mail), Limbaugh pushed Cline to get more "little blues" - code for OxyContin, the powerful narcotic nicknamed hillbilly heroin, she said. "You know how this stuff works ... the more you get used to, the more it takes"...After four years of drug deals that included clandestine handoffs in a Denny's parking lot...She...wore a wire during her last two deliveries to the conservative commentator and gave the tapes to authorities.

Here's his stash:

- Hydrocodone
Anti-cough agent and painkiller similar to morphine. Side effects include anxiety, poor mental performance, emotional dependence,...

- Lorcet
Side effects include dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dizziness, tiredness, muscle twitches, sweating and itching.

- OxyContin
...(Also) known as hillbilly heroin...Side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, sweating, muscle twitches and decreased sex drive...

"His tone was nasty and bullying. He said, 'I don't care how or what you do, but you'd better - better! - get me some more,'" Cline said.

Why do I keeping thinking about this:

58. On that note...
To read their HILLARY and THE MEDIA are out to make us the new U.S.S.R and kill Jesus and feed white middle class Christians to the lions, makes me hate these mongrel conservative morons even more.

YOU ARE THE PARTY OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILTY

-Your ideological speak and spell is a racist bastard
-You compromised your thinly veiled Facist beliefs to elect a celebrity with principles you hate.
-A member of YOUR WHITE HOUSE compromised national security to kill dissent
-Your savior David Kay turned up diddly squat

And with the White House, Congress, and the SCOTUS firmly in republican hands, YOU STILL BLAME THE GREAT HILLARY/MEDIA/JESUS HATER conspiracy.

I will take great pleasure as your brains melt from the hell your hubris is bringing to bear. And cant wait to b---- slap you Repugs once you decide to start your middle class revolt on the eeevil liberals.

Rant over

Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes
Get out of bed
Wake up! The wicked witch is dead
He's gone where the goblins go
Below, below, below
Yo ho! Let's open up and sing
And ring the bells out
Ding-dong! The merry-o
Sing it high
Sing it low
Let them know the wicked witch is dead

78. No matter what happens now, Rush has lost face
and from how CNN is reporting this story, it sounds like there's more to come from this. They say he is not the target of the investigation, but if that were true, he would have been the one wearing the wire - not his housekeeper.

Last night when I heard he resigned from ESPN, I thought it was peculiar because this is the kind of controversy Limbaugh relishes. In fact, it's the kind of thing he would say on purpose to create attention.
