Microsoft set to quit MSNBC news channel
http://rawstory.com/exclusives/microsoft_quits_msnbc_501.htm

The Microsoft corporation—which at one time had both a news television channel and a leading online newsmagazine—is ready to divorce NBC News and depart MSNBC, RAW STORY has learned.

I hope CNN is next...

1. I also wish that FAUX news would take a hike.
Fire Chris Matthews and hire Phil Donuhue.

8. I'm not certain, but didn't Microsoft get involved w/ NBC cable...
because NBC was going to fold their cable channel because it was unprofitable due to low ratings?

22. I think that MSNBC is one of the better ones actually. They give Olbermann
a pretty long leash on what he talks about. He's the only reason that I tune in to the channel though.

4. I just hope this doesn't mean Olberman gets the boot.
He's the only reason I haven't deleted MSNBC like I did with CNN, HNN, FucksNews, etc.

10. No, this is actually old news from March
http://news.com.com/Microsoft+to+pull+out+of+MSNBC/2100-1038_3-5599937.html

Microsoft could be about to pull out of cable news network MSNBC, according to a report.

Microsoft and NBC, joint owners of the network and its companion news portal, are in "advanced discussions" over the sale of the software giant's stake to NBC, according to The New York Post.

11. Gates knows his audience is online - he's still got his hand on that mouse
(from Raincents Rawstory link)

"...talks centered around NBC taking sole control of the news company, with Microsoft having rights to use some of its online news content."

12. Well, none of these calble news channels make money. Maybe
MS is tired of flacking for the right after their screw up with the gay community. They'll pay for this forever. I'd dumb Windows in a hot minute if it weren't for one single program that's vital to my business that runs only in Windows.

18. I never did see what MSN brought to NBC
since that is what they were trying to combine. They were trying to leach off the computer buzz phrases in the 1990's.

Their website has always been horribly designed, technology really never was a focus, as it was spunoff to ZDTV/TechTV soon afterwards (which G4 recently killed off).

19. I agree...
and not only is their website horrible, but their graphics on screen are bad when compared to what even regular NBC news.

I hope this is used as a chance to totally reshape the channel into something new, with a new look and a fresher spirit!

Keep Obermann though, he's the best thing that channel has going for it. :)

21. Heh, probably...
I'm very interested to see how they're going to market themselves after this change. They could just knock some letters off and act like nothing else has changed or they might go for a total change reinventing the entire channel.

Only time will tell...
