QB disappointed other's didn't responded during show (+Rush says...)

PHILADELPHIA -- Donovan McNabb isn't looking for an apology from Rush Limbaugh, who said he was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed.

It's too late for that.

"He said what he said. ... I'm sure he's not the only one that feels that way but it's somewhat shocking to actually hear that on national TV," the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback said of Limbaugh at a news conference Wednesday. "An apology would do no good because he obviously thought about it before he said it."

And the ever humble Rush says...

"All this has become the tempest that it is because I must have been right about something," Limbaugh said. "If I wasn't right, there wouldn't be this cacophony of outrage that has sprung up in the sports writer community."

Chris Berman, who anchors the ESPN show, described himself as "a New England Democrat" but added, "I don't think Rush was malicious in intent or in tone.''

"As the quarterback of the show, I feel bad about it. I don't think it was meant the way it came out. I don't think that defines the way Rush feels about people."

ESPN spokesman Dave Nagle said Tuesday that with Limbaugh on the show this season, ratings for "Sunday NFL Countdown" are up 10 percent overall, and 26 percent among the 18-to-34 male demographic. Sunday's show drew its biggest audience in the regular season since November 1996.

WTF does that mean?

I used to like you, Chris Berman. You used to be one of my favorite football commentators. No more.

12. He's not "toast!"
This is exactly what ESPN hired him for and his bigoted following will support him all the more. African Americans will continue to support ESPN by spending money on all the sponsor's products and attending all the parks and programs. Just face it folks...racism and bigotry is alive and well in the US.

In what world does someone remain quiet when they hear someone say something that is dead wrong? What planet does Limbaugh come from?

But here's a REALLY excellent article by Phil Sheridan about the incident. I would say that Rush has been really and truly bitchslapped, and I emailed Mr. Sheridan to thank him for being awesome.

14. Memo to Dave Nagle

If you really want to up the ratings, replace Limbaugh with a stripper, that would definatly appeal to the 18-to-34 male demographic.

predict the winners on many of the reality shows (like Fame, Big Brother, American Idol, and some show about comedians competing...etc.) because it seemed there was a trend that Asians would win, and/or a minority.

I asked her if she thought it was just coincidence, a reflection of the changing times, or rigged to change attitudes, subdue the masses to head off class conflict, or maybe cater to minorities in some way. (Afterall, I thought to myself, we ARE attempting to "go global" and Eurasia is the next destination for many media conglomerates). I personally wouldn't put it past the propagandists to try to intentionally raise the profile of these various groups for some purpose. That's not a commentary on race...(it could be anything or anyone they set their sites on)...it's a deep cynicism about the media. They are very interested in using information/media to shape our perceptions.....that's not news to anyone. Sometimes it's a benign and altruistic form of education and integration , sometimes it's just what "sells" at the time, but I think we can always count on it being selfserving.

Apparently she hadn't given it much thought because she just shrugged and said she didn't know why......but she just noticed that was the case.
She's white, and based on previous conversations I think she's a Democrat (though I don't know how politically active she is) so I asked her if she found their winning objectional. She said no, and that she liked and was routing for many of them to win. She said she just noticed this trend.

So is this racism - to notice a change in the color ratio on t.v.?

On edit: I'm NOT defending Rush who has a particular agenda. Just wondering if the media is using various groups intentionally. It's stinks to even discuss all this because it seems to bring the inherent merits of the individual (quite aside from race) into question.

24. Could just be statistics
As the fields of contestants become more diverse, the likelihood of a minority winning goes up. I think your friend just might be seeing that result.

Look at it this way: If there are five contestants -- one white male, one black female, one Latino male, one Asian female, one black male -- and I predict that a minority will win, then I have a 4-in-5 chance of being right.

I suppose it's possible that the networks rig their contests to cater to a demographic (remember the movie "Quiz Show", based on a true story?), but I suspect it's just the natural consequence of increased diversity.

And that's a good thing.

because from what Ive seen most of the contestants and winners are white. Nothing wrong with that because most Americans are white.

31. All Rush was saying...
was that he, as a football fan, thinks that McNabb is overrated. He doesn't think McNabb is as good as everyone else thinks he is. He thinks McNabb has gotten more credit than he deserves. He thinks that the defense of the team was more responsible for it's success. So then you would say, well Rush, why does he get so much attention then if you don't think's he worth it? And Rush's opinion is that it's because the media and the NFL want to see black coaches and quarterbacks succeed, so they hype them up a little more. That's hardly a racist comment, especially since most sports anyalyts would agree with that. I've heard several in the last couple days that agree with Rush's point about the media and league wanting black coaches and quarterbacks to do well. But they don't agree with his opinion that McNabb is overrated. So basically, everyone is upset because Rush Limbaugh doesn't think a certain player is as good as everyone else thinks. I love Sammy Sosa, but I know people that don't think he's all that great, are they racist? I think what people are trying to get from this is that Rush doesn't like McNabb because he's black, but that's clearly not what he said nor was that his intent.

18. Rush doesn't get it
Limbaugh should be let go, not because what he said should be determined to be so offensive as to merit firing, but because the moron can't seperate extremist political idealogy from sports.

If Donovan McNabb was say, the only black GOP Congressman, it might be on track to talk about him being overrated because a bunch of white guys want one blakc guy to look good.

But a quarterback? Come on, tell me McNabb is overrated because he can't complete passes into a moderatley protected secondary, tell me he's overrated because of bias for the Eagles, but don't trot out pathetic issues connected to one's aversion for the outcomes of affirmative action programs.

Dennis Miller didn't last because his high-brow humor seemed a little too forced and he didn't connect to the audience. Limbaugh should stick to talk radio and leave sports to guys who want to actually talk about sports.

20. Interesting

So Limbaugh says that because people are speaking out about his comments, that he must have been right? LMAO...

So if a notable celebrity were to come out and say, "Hitler was a great man...Had we allowed him to exterminate Jews, Blacks, gays and any other undesireable, the world would be a better place."

This comment would probably inspire quite a laundry list of responses. Would THAT make pro-Hitler comments right?

Is this Limbaughs logic? That if you say something...and the ONLY result of that comment is to piss people off that means you are right. He can't be this much of a fucking idiot can he?

But Ohhhh...goodie...I just found us an out...Ted Kennedy's comments about Bush's war being a fraud and comments by Democrats to bring in a Special Advocate for Wilson-Gate has inspired a TREMENDOUS amount of backlash among others, Rushie himself.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....Rush Limbaugh has just told us...The Democrats are right about the war being a fraud and right about Wilson-Gate (if there is really anything to be right about at this point).

21. Bottom line is bottom line
Rush boosted the ratings a good chunk I suppose by bringing his dittoheads(or ratings fix machine) on board. He can say just about anything- and will- unless their is some insible line out there.

That invisible line is viewership drop and sponsor cancellations. In our city I believe that is what got our goon canned- martyred in his view, because it took time for the decision to be made. They said it was his "unapologetic" comments. I think it was a look at the profit margin.

espn is admitting they are trolling for viewers no matter what the cost. I'm sorry that demographic is completely apolitical, there is NO WAY IN HELL they are watching cause of limpballs. This is beyond belief this piece of shit is making excuses for him. McNabb was one of the BEST college football players to EVER play in my city (Syracuse), we are proud of him and many continue to follow his career. He EARNED his place in the NFL, unlike that detestable hunk of worm vomit jeff christie.
