Gallup: 50% of Americans Now Say Bush Deliberately Misled Them on WMDs
Gallup: 50% of Americans Now Say Bush Deliberately Misled Them on WMDs

NEW YORK Half of all Americans, exactly 50%, now say the Bush administration deliberately misled Americans about whether Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, the Gallup Organization reported this morning.

"This is the highest percentage that Gallup has found on this measure since the question was first asked in late May 2003," the pollsters observed. "At that time, 31% said the administration deliberately misled Americans. This sentiment has gradually increased over time, to 39% in July 2003, 43% in January/February 2004, and 47% in October 2004."

Also, according to the latest poll, more than half of Americans, 54%, disapprove of the way President Bush is handling the situation in Iraq, while 43% approve. In early February, Americans were more evenly divided on the way Bush was handling the situation in Iraq, with 50% approving and 48% disapproving.

Last week Gallup reported that 53% now believe that the U.S. invasion of Iraq was "not worth it." But Frank Newport, editor in chief at Gallup, recalled today that although a majority of the public began to think the Vietnam war was a mistake in the summer of 1968, the United States did not pull out of Vietnam for more than five years, after thousands of more American lives were lost.

...or who said it (I think it was in the context of how to get rich, or get along with everyone), but:

"You know how dumb the average person is? Well, statistically, half of the people are dumber..."

(assuming average equals median, anyway :) )

68. Give it a rest. You know the reason many Americans give him a pass.
It's because they think Chimpy's a "good Christian," and that Democrats are somehow atheists, or atheist-friendly, or something.

That's not a slur against other religions and beliefs. That's facing reality.

72. Exactly, thank you !
I have seen so many times on TV in Peter Hart's focus groups--

Some woman from OH or some other state stating that " I am not comfortable with some of the President's decisions ( meaning Iraq)..but (somewhat apologetically) I am going to vote for him because (mocking tone) ..He shares my values (/end mocking tone).
This is just so disgusting !

89. We don't really disagree.
I'm just accounting for the apparent cognitive dissonance we see in "Christians" who vote Republican.

Plenty of Americans are "secular." The seculars who support Bush think we silly liberals are blowing the whole "theocracy" thing out of proportion.

They may have a minor point, actually. I think that a lot of what we call "theocracy" is just boring old politickin'... while those true-believing End Timers may think they've got a Godly man representing them, everyone else is in on the joke.

Of course it isn't much of a joke if you're being told you can't adopt, or that your kid has to waste time learning about Intelligent Design, or...

After all, bullies are actually scared and weak (or so goes the popular psychology line). I HOPE as many as 70% disapprove, but that would seem high, even considering the Gallup skew.

100. The term toughness also goes for the judiciary
Many Repugs who might be concerned about the environment would sacrifice it for a strong conservative judiciary who will crack down on perceived abuse of abortion rights.

What nobody is really saying is that Judge Owen is owing to Enron and Haliburton as well as being an activisit for religious extremists.

So the Capitalists can be happy to allow her to wave any harsh judgements against corporates and come down hard on the powerless.

A huge number are unwilling to consider that Bush could make a mistake (let alone purposefully decieve) because it makes them look like they were wrong to support him. No one wants to admit they were had.

135. Get UN-DUMB: Rico lawsuit : PA attny takes on Bush II:

http://www.arcticbeacon.com/articles/article/1518131/24652.htm This is the core of the lawsuit: skip down to p. 76, below:

".....Berg told the court bluntly: "If there was no government complicity in the 9/11 attacks, why have defendants lied repeatedly about abundant advance warnings?....

Berg added that Press Secretary Ari Fleischer also lied in a May 16, 2002, press statement when he announced: "The President did not receive information about the use of airplanes as missiles by suicide bombers. This was a new kind of attack that had not been foreseen."

Adding to the enormity of the lying, Berg cited a statement made by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made to the entire nation on September 30, 2001:
"Never would it have crossed anyone’s mind that a commercial airline would be used as a missile. Usually a hijacker who takes an airplane, of course, wants to get someplace or wants to make a statement or wants to go on television or wants to hold hostages, but this is a distinctly different behavior pattern than we have seen previously, and now, obviously, something we have to be attentive to."

Further, Berg added that Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta also lied to the 9/11 Commission, on May 23, 2003, when he said: "I don’t think we ever thought of an aircraft being used as a missile. We had no information of that nature at all....."

(Until it was leaked to the press in May 2002, the Bush II Administration withheld
from the public the title of the CIA’s daily briefing to President Bush on August 6, 2001: “Bin
Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.”118) p. 87 of below document:
pp. 77 on, for about 10 pages, assoc w/ pdf, are a list of the various historical pieces re: Bush II administration lie re: 'we never imagined....'

We are not whole
We’re pinheads all
Jocko homo
Are we not men?

Monkey men all
In business suit
Teachers and critics
All dance the poot
Are we not men?
We are devo!
Are we not men?
D-e-v-o
God made man
But he used the monkey to do it
Apes in the plan
We’re all here to prove it
I can walk like an ape
Talk like an ape
I can do what a monkey can do
God made man
But a monkey supplied the glue
We must repeat
O.k. let’s go!

He thinks it is a good strategy. I just read his last sermon where he states over and over again that the Bible says it is never OK to kill an innocent person, (personally I think it says it's not OK to kill. Period. Maybe this is where the Fundies get off with the death penalty and war).

To continue: His "don't kill an innocent person" bit was all about Terri Schaivo, abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide. He mentions once that a commander sends his troupes into harms way but does not INTEND for them to be killed!.

I shot back with - "what about the innocent soldiers on the other side"!
And some other ditties but he has not responded.

BTW - this man is currently working on his Doctorate in Theology!

66. I got the name wrong: it's called a TV B-Gone
It's a little key-ring sized gadget with a single button that will turn off any TV that has a remote-sensor (but not the ones in airports, alas). It's undetectable and works like a charm. An all-around excellent gift for your TV-hating friends. I got mine at: www.tvbegone.com

If the TV is in your line of sight (not around a corner or through a wall), TV B-Gone will zap it. I don't usually endorse stuff like this, but it's a wonderful product--just 14.95. My wife loves hers.

113. you have no idea how high my blood pressure went
and my pressure is usually 90/58! in the run-up to the 'war' i would go shopping. and in three fitting room areas there were / are these screens set in the wall w/ instructions that ONly FoxNews and some other channel (sports? )were to be on. But on my numerous trips there ( to escape from the world for a while ), FOX would be blasting.

i would sneak over and turn the volume down but you could still see the screen. complaints to the salespeople brought the lame excuse: " well the store spent a lot of money putting them in......."

I would write to the mgr. No Response. So I started my personal boycott. After Xmas, i checked them again and this time one of *'s social security propaganda films was on. That was when i cut up the first card. They also sent another type of card and that one was cut up and sent to the company president. I got a letter from his secretary saying I'd get a response ... we shall see.

even though i get a friends and family discount from a neighbor who worked for them, i don't use them. i don't need macy's and evidently macy's doesn't need me.

139. evidence is strong than that as assoc w/ RICO lawsuit:
BUSH II ADMINS PEOPLE KNEW: WHY ELSE:
http://www.911forthetruth.com/pages/BergBlog.htm

A few members of Congress, notably Senators Daschle (D-SD) and Leahy (D-VT),
briefly resisted the “Patriot Act” with its many unconstitutional provisions. Messrs. Daschle and
Leahy, however, were thereupon sent potentially fatal dosages of “weaponized” anthrax, from
American stores. Congress has been mostly supine since.....

The determination
to cover up the truth was so complete, and so “bipartisan,” that not even one outsider, not one
person directly injured by the attacks, not even the estimable (and, as it happens, Republican)
Ms. Breitweiser could be brought into that sanctum in which “truth” is fabricated for the
masses.

The (9-11) Commission almost makes the Warren Commission look like a model
of truth-seeking and alacrity. At least the Warren Commission required witnesses to be sworn....

24

Also on 9-11, NORAD was conducting a periodic war game,, this one known as
“Vigilant Guardian.” Details have not been made public, but it is known that the scenario was
supposed to test “an imaginary crisis to North American Air Defense outposts nationwide.”72
According to one NORAD employee, “everybody” at NORAD initially thought that the real
hijackings on 9-11 were part of the exercise.73...

89
People tend to excuse the military for not promptly responding to the attacks of 9-11
because they have been led to believe that the only military alternative was to shoot down planes
carrying civilian passengers; but this is not the case. Standard military procedure when a plane
deviates off course (something air controllers know immediately) is to send up fighter planes to
locate the "lost" plane, fly beside it, peer into the windows to see what is going on, and try to
guide it to safety. None of this was done with any of the four hijacked planes, despite ample
time in each case. In the case of Flight 77, the military had nearly an hour to do it; yet fighters
were never sent up to accompany or communicate with the airliner before it crashed into the
Pentagon.

The simultaneous occurence of the two events (NORAD Vigilant Guardian drill and 9-11) could not have been mere coincidence; and without
their simultaneous occurrence, the hijacking attempt would have failed. How did the hijackers
know of the exercise? Plaintiff submits that the defendants were and could only have been
complicit in the deed.

Arguably the most important appearance a President makes. The very idea that a President has to be sworn to tell the truth in the SOTU, ridiculous. The deal is, I've actually gone through alot of the Administration's speeches & testimony. They were very tricky in the way they stated things. The real whoppers came in the media. That isn't against the law.

140. NORAD lied: RICO lawsuit:
http://www.911forthetruth.com/pages/BergBlog.htm

look at pdf's

Thus, even leaving Otis as late as
8:52 A.M., it is inexplicable that the F-15s failed to reach New York before 9:03 A.M.
236. NORAD cannot reconcile its “scalded ape,” “full-blower” claims with its story that
it took the F-15s from Otis nineteen minutes to reach New York City.153 Traveling 188 miles in
19 minutes means that these 1875 MPH fighters responded to this crisis flying at an average
speed of about 594 MPH, a distinctly subsonic speed, a fraction of the F-15’s capabilities,

Indeed, neither Flight 11 nor Flight 175 was at any time lost to Boston flight control’s radar.

“Within minutes” of the first impact at 8:46 A.M., two open telephone conference calls were
established among the FAA, NORAD, the Secret Service, and a number of other government
agencies.167 Indeed, according to multiple news sources, even President Bush and Vice President
Cheney were occasionally overheard on these open lines.168
241. Based on the foregoing, it defies belief that, as NORAD claimed in testimony before
the Commission on May 23, 2003, it was not notified of Flight 11 striking the North Tower of
the World Trade Center until 9:05 A.M.169

NORAD, plainly, cannot keep its lies straight,

NORAD did nothing between 8:40
A.M., at which hour it admits receiving word that Flight 11 had been hijacked, for at least 57
minutes, until some time after the Pentagon was struck, at 9:37 A.M.171

F-15 fighters departing Otis as late as 8:52 A.M. could,
without undue effort, have reached New York in time to intercept Flight 175. The discrepancies
in NORAD’S (and Gen. Myers’) accounts are numerous, consequential, and highly suspect.

But for the fact that the Commission has
evidently accepted, without question, the dubious testimony from NORAD, and the major media
(while persisting in reporting some facts not consistent with the Official Story) has not
highlighted these facts or their implications, NORAD would have “a lot of explaining to do”
concerning its failure to get a fighter plane over Washington (and nearby Arlington, Virginia) in
the approximately 47 minutes it ought to have had for that task.

that would never change their minds about Chimpy-the-Idiot-King just because he has an R in front of his political affiliation. I think Michael Moore said, appearing in an interview with Charlie Rose, there's like 30 - 35 percent of Americans that would vote for a sock-puppet if it had an R before its political affiliation.

Then there's about 10 - 15 percent that are severely ill-informed, thanks in part to a lack of curiosity, and another part of being fed the US-MSM bullshit.

I'd say about 50 to 55 percent are catching on to the antics of Idiot-Chimpy-in-Chief. I know this doesn't come to a perfect hundred, but I'm roughly estimating.

http://www.911forthetruth.com/pages/BergBlog.htm

General Frank Salzedo, then Chief of FEMA’s “Civil Security Division,” stated in a 1983
conference that he saw FEMA’s role as including the denial of “access to U.S. opinion” to
“dissident groups” in times of crisis. In other words, if the President declares a state of
emergency, the First Amendment is a dead letter, and FEMA’s role includes the suppression of
dissent.

Presidential powers were further increased with successive Crime Bills (particularly
those enacted in 1991 and 1993). This legislation increased the power to suspend rights
guaranteed under the Constitution, and to seize the property of persons including suspected drug
dealers, and individuals who participate in a public protest or demonstration.

I thought the majority of the Americans who voted for Bush did so based on the trust factor. They "thought" he was was a good ole boy, just like them. If they think he deliberately lied to them, how can they trust him anymore - on ANYTHING.

"I will never trust the Bush Administration again if they don't find WMD's"

I wonder which side he is on now.

103. O'Reilly
Edited on Tue Apr-26-05 08:19 PM by Kmarx
Is a phoney. He knows that he can only say what Rupert Murdock will permit him to say about that fool in the White House. That's why he (O'Reilly) spins so well when Bush trips over his own feet.

83. I just don't get it.
How can ANYONE still support the giggling murderer?

Not ONE THING this clown, or his administration, said about this war has turned out to be right. NOT ONE.

I would think that when you are wrong 100% of the time, and the country that you invaded is on the verge of civil war, that the time would come when even republicans want this man held accountable.

How are we losing to these people?

Sheesh!

85. Someone who voted for the monster told me
it was because they felt like they didn't know what they were getting with Kerry, even though they agreed that Bush* was horrible. I told them I understand their point, but that maybe they didn't understand how truly evil Bushco is. I really don't get it either. And i don't understand why people aren't screaming for impeachment, unless it is because they are too busy struggling to get by.

I think the other 50% still believe Bush was misled by the FBI, CIA, etc.
I wonder how many still believe there were WMDs? The latest report did leave some room for this possibility, and if you know anything about teleportation to other dimensions, you probably believe it too.

93. What took them so long?

I think if the media had done a better job of researching the neocons' background and agenda and reporting it, more people would have wised up sooner. There was plenty of evidence that they were manipulating intelligence (and probably even outright lying) before the war, but the mainstream media ignored it.

but the main media was shaking in its boots. Case in point, on MSNBC both Ashley Banfield and Phil Donahue were kicked off the air when they spoke their minds about the warmongers who were leading the American off to another imperialistic war.

101. I'm not surprised.
The fact that 50% of the public now says that Bush is a liar should not surprise us nor give us any solace. The fact that it took so long for them to catch on to this psychopath and the fact that only 50% have caught speaks less then well about the intelligence of the American people.

they would have seen Fahrenheit 9/11. They would have noticed something very revealing in the scene where the jackass was preparing to go on the air and tell America that it was going to war. 121. I know...
So many Republicans are like "Well, I disagreed with the way he went about the war too..."

Okay, so lying about a war is fine, but a man marrying a man, that's something we need to stop.

The other day, a friend of mine encountered a neoCon literally arguing that Saddam may STILL have nuclear weapons we haven't yet discovered. Five minutes later, he was scraping his ass off the floor. It was good times to watch.

Anyway, I think this number will go up. And next thing you know, gas prices will skyrocket, the economy will stagnate, the Republican administration will be embroiled in scandal and 1973 - I mean, oops, wait, what year are we in? - will be rolling around. Oh so sad. If we only hadn't elected the assholes in the first place.

141. You can blame the repugs or you can blame the voters! Sorry, but I blame
the stupid people of this country that voted him in for a 2nd term. They're also responsible for the fact that we have a one-party system in this country now. So they get what they deserve... no healthcare, badly funded schools, unemployment, high oil prices, etc etc.,

Let's face it, it shouldn't have boiled down to Ohio or Florida. Voting irregularities or not, it should have been a landslide! and it wasn't. The Guardian was right with it headline
"How can .....million people be that stupid"!

127. WHY CAN'T WE USE THE WORK LIE!!!!!!!
This is becoming insanely maddening.

The British public are furious and are not cowards like Americans are.

The are rightfully fucking pissed and are not afraid to use the word LIE.

I'm also appalled at how many DU'ers are still buying the intelligence failure story. Is this because reality is so hard to deal w/.

Haven't we noticed they used the incompetence theory for EVERYTHING??

Let's see: Gulf of Tonkin -->>Oh shit we weren't REALLY attacked.
Sorry about that folks we meant well
but you, know it gave us the
excuse we were looking for to draft your
kids and waste over a million Gooks.

Let's see: 911-->>You know the whole world knew something was going to
to happen, but having the most advanced Intelligence
in the world, the most advanced air warning system,
in the world, things just get sooo complicated some
times. Then we give you guys the Warren/er uh, 911
commission that ignores all the insane questions of
logic that noone cares to answer.

Look - they're going to use the incompetence tactic in every sticky situation where 1000's of people will die.

How long are we going to keep buying this shit?

And a lot of us knew that over two years ago. I always wondered why, if we had all that "proof", that he didn't just tell the weapons inspectors and let them deal with it since they were already there. The reason is, he wanted a war. His ratings were slipping and the "war on terror" had been very, very good for *.
