Probation inquiry over Martha Stewart gala appearance

Telegraph
By Tom Leonard in New York
(Filed: 26/04/2005)

Martha Stewart, the American domestic guru, is being investigated by probation officers over claims that she may have violated the conditions of her release from prison by going to a celebrity gala.

The US probation department said that it was trying to establish whether a dinner she attended in New York to celebrate Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People" was directly related to her employment.

If not, Stewart, one of this year's 100, may be deemed to have broken the terms of her release and could be sent back to prison where she has served a five-month sentence for lying about a share deal.

The Time party was billed as a "celebration" rather than an awards ceremony. Fellow guests included the actress Nicole Kidman and the American television presenter Barbara Walters.

1. Martha "sticks it in their eye." Good for her.
She will be trashed as once again showing she thinks she's "above the law," but those of us who know that if she was a Repug they would let her fly around the country doing fundraising for Bush with her "ankle bracelet on" if it suited their purpose.

She's saying: "Okay, Big Boys....Bring it On...you lying Hypocrits!"

Martha Rocks! (and believe me I wasn't exactly a fan of her's until the Repug Crime Machine went after her because they hate women, and her little Dem contributions made them go ballistic.)

2. Since she was named as one of the 100
this is pure harassment by a GOP prosecutor.

I want these men out of power. I want most of them jailed for this stuff. I want my country back.

Stewart is no angel, but her treatment has been appalling. And Ken Lay is still free as a birdie, flitting from mansion to mansion.

6. New York Post = Rupert Murdoch??
No surprise there.. Going to "events" is a MAJOR "job description" for her, and they KNOW IT.. It's just another sleazy way to keep her in the news, so they can dredge up trash about her..:eyes:

7. Martha applied for and received permission from her Parole Officer
to attend this event. Since she markets her name, being on the list of 100 most influential falls right into that category.

At least, we know she can buy the best legal advice and support available. Let the government try and renege.

8. How is Ken Lay's probation going???
Ha, ha. In our dreams. The real criminals run free. They're just waiting to pardon him when Bush leaves office.
