Diebold Profit Dips on Restructuring Charge

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Diebold Inc., which makes automated teller machines and security and voting equipment, reported an 8.5 percent drop in first-quarter earnings Wednesday, reflecting $7.3 million in restructuring charges, mostly in Western Europe.

The company also warned that earnings would be below Wall Street estimates for the year. The company's stock tumbled more than 7 percent in late morning trading Wednesday.
