1. Whats this? I thought the US denied any sodiers were kidnapped
>>>In Ad Dujayl, 15 miles (25 kilometers) south of Balad, U.S. forces apprehended a car that was speeding away from an IED attack, killing one of the attackers and detaining three others.

In the trunk of the car were found M-16 rifles with serial numbers belonging to a pair of U.S. soldiers kidnapped and then killed over the summer. U.S. officials are investigating whether the men being detained have any connection to the deaths.<<<

Pentagon denies soldiers kidnapped in Iraq

Two US soldiers that a previously unknown Iraqi group claimed it had captured are safe and were never missing, the Pentagon said today.

The group sent a statement to Lebanese television today claiming to have kidnapped the pair during an attack on a convoy west of Baghdad.

Calling itself the Al-Madina al-Munawara Division, it sent the station two ID cards allegedly belonging to the Americans.

But the Pentagon said one of the soldiers was being treated at a US army hospital in Texas after losing his ID card when he was injured by a mine.

3. Wrong incident
There were two US soldiers who were reported missing, then turned up dead, way back in June or July. It was fully acknowledged by CENTCOM, and in fact was on all the news stations for about a week. I have the exact date and units on a spreadsheet at home, so I can get it to you later.

The incident you refer to here (8/22) is separate, and has nothing to do with the very real capture and execution in June.

So, sorry, but no contradiction here.

5. that's a good one
looks like those US soldiers were caught by the dastardly cabal
that steals M-16 rifles and ID cards from their captives
before making them go free!

2. I'm getting confused
Is this the same attack as in the other thread? And NPR is reporting that U.S. soldiers are conducting some kind of a raid in the Tikrit area--same thing or entirely different event?

7. One female soldier dead, and two of the wounded are critical
CNN was told by one source that the soldier who died, the driver, was female.

Two of the wounded soldiers are in life-threatening condition and are receiving medical treatment. The third had a minor injury and returned to duty.
