Owens vetoes contraception bill (CO, BC pills = abortion, per gov)
I posted a rant about this here on DU after seeing MTP on Sunday.
Now, my state's governor has used that exact phrase...

It would have required hospitals to provide info to rape victims

By Lynn Bartels, Rocky Mountain News
April 6, 2005

Gov. Bill Owens on Tuesday vetoed a bill requiring hospitals to provide information about emergency contraception to rape victims.

"This bill does not give patients all the information that they deserve, nor does it safeguard basic freedom of conscience," he said in his two-page veto letter.

snip>
He said one method of emergency contraception would prevent "a fertilized egg from imbedding in the uterine wall."

"This raises serious concerns for those whose conscience tells them a fertilized egg is a human life," Owens said.

1. I wonder if he would feel the same way if his daughter or wife were raped
But I am sure they would have access to the drugs in the event such a terrible thing happened.

Does this mean that Colorado Republicans are also pro-rapists? Or is it just the governor?

10. Anti-Choice = Pro Rape
Bastards.

We should latch onto this meme like a pit bull and never let go until we've beaten the bastards in this sick and twisted war against women.

7. In a just world, some doctor would drug him and implant a fetus on his
liver or spleen. Then he too could experience the joy of being drugged and impregnated without consent.

We were considering CO for retirement. Not after the news from there the past few years.

"This bill does not give patients all the information that they deserve, nor does it safeguard basic freedom of conscience."

Can you believe that this asshole is trying to make it seem as though he's actually concerned about the woman? Yeah right.

11. There are so many things wrong with this. What's next BC pills?
There are already pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions for them. IUDs? They prevent implantation of a fertilized egg also.

Let's give him a fricking uterus and tell him he has no control over it.

disgusts me. As if he is some kind of expert in reproductive endocrinology or peri neonatology. ugh. MKJ

17. A considerable amount of fertilized eggs never implant. That's nature.
A percentage of fertilized eggs that do implant miscarry. That's nature. Even if you take the whole religious standpoint by the way God created things, you STILL cannot justify saying that every fertilized egg is a life meant to be. You cannot do it.

Let's assume hypothetically, for argument's sake, I have an IUD that prevents implantation and I have a two year old with a genetic condition causing health problems. I don't have insurance for my two year old and future children I might have stand a 50/50 chance of having...let's say, cystic fibrosis. What insane form of "moral" justification does it take for that sick two year old without health insurance and in need of a lot of health care, become less important than the unimplanted egg shed with my monthly cycle?

They want a culture of life? Fine, so do I. I want a culture of life that improves the quality of life and healthy for living people.

14. What DRIVES these fools???
You know, over the last several decades, fertility rates have declined in both men and women, and some wonder if it isn't due to all the shit in the air and the mercury in the oceans and streams, and of course, fish.

And out in the wild, it's the biggest, strongest animal that gets the prize screwing, simply by being the biggest, strongest animal. You have to wonder, do these idiots actually think they are going to "get some" by authoritatively waving their tiny little pens over absurd legislative proposals, or vetoing efforts such as this? I mean, COME ON.

This is just SO ABSURD, and rather frightening. Is there a contender for his seat in the wings? That asshole has got to go!

19. I actually have an answer
When I was quite young I dated an aide to a certain vile Republican Senator. He had attended a near-Ivy college (tried to get into the biggies but wasn't accepted) and used to love to gloat about the stupidity of the masses. They (meaning his repuke cohorts) used to love - LOVE - to see the "NASCAR idiots" (the actual term they used in private) falling for their line of BS. It made them feel strong and omnipotent. He used to badmouth abortion in public, but really had no problem with it privately. Didn't really care. But if it made the "idiots" dance to his tune, he would say pretty much whatever they wanted to hear.

He used to laugh and say, "When the average joe talks about 'them', they mean us!"

He regarded the Bush family's device of pretending to be from Texas when they were actually from Connecticut as the most brilliant trick ever perpetrated on the "NASCAR idiots".

In case you're wondering, we had started dating in high school well before he turned evil. Judging by him and the changes I saw in him, for a lot of the minions it all has to do with self-esteem. They want to be part of the "in" group.

As for where he is today - he got an unusual illness (don't wish to disclose it) and died too young (maybe he would have redeemed himself as a true adult).

This is what we're up against, kids.

15. This is an example of an issue which is perfect for Democratic
framing.

"The Democratic Party supports the availability of birth control for rape victims."

18. Need to make up a snappy euphemism for "birth control"
"treatment"
"medicine"
"health care"
"counseling"
"rights"

Word like "abortion", "birth control" and "choice" are a third rail. They wouldn't be in a secular country, but that's OVER.

24. They hate women. It really is that simple. Why people pretend it's
anything else just causes me to view them with scorn and contempt.

You have to hate a woman to deny her help after she's been raped.
