Cameraman for CBS Wounded by U.S. Troops in Iraq
NEW YORK (Reuters) - An Iraqi freelance cameraman who worksfor CBS News was shot and wounded on Tuesday in northern Iraqby U.S. troops who mistook his camera for a weapon, the U.S.military and CBS News said.

The cameraman and reporter suffered minor injuries when hewas shot while covering a firefight for CBS in Mosul, CBS Newssaid. It asked that the man's name not be reported for hisprotection.

The U.S. military said in a statement from Mosul releasedat the Pentagon that U.S. soldiers had been involved in anengagement with at least one suspected insurgent who was"waving an AK-47 (assault rifle) and inciting a crowd ofcivilians."

During the incident, "an individual that appeared to have aweapon who was standing near the insurgent was shot andinjured. This individual turned out to be a reporter who waspointing a video camera," the military statement said.

6. You Know what is really sad/bad here??
I read an article recently in RS I believe. It was about how ALL of the Western News media outlets are relying on these Iraqi "stringers" and photogrphers for reporting because they can NOT leave their freakin bunker in the Green Zone in Baghdad. I hope these brave souls don't give up. They are all we have left for information. Remember Al-Jazeera was booted out of Baghdad. :grr:
