Charles to Wed on Friday Despite Pope's Funeral
Apr 3, 2005 — LONDON (Reuters) - The wedding of Britain's Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles will go ahead Friday even if it clashes with the funeral of Pope John Paul, Clarence House said Sunday.

"If the funeral falls Friday, the wedding will still go ahead," a spokeswoman said. The Pope's funeral was expected to be held between Wednesday and Friday.

The royal wedding has been hit by several glitches from the outset, with the British tabloids dubbing it a royal fiasco.

"It's doomed before they even take the vow."

3. I'm not showing up for work on Friday
Pope's funeral, and all.

The world should stop turning while they entomb the Pope. It would be even better if we could just use rockets or something to stop the Earth in its orbit during that whole weekend.

17. I know, really. What's the big deal? We all knew the pope was about to
die, no secret... the whole world should stop because some ancient, archaic icon of an ancient, archaic cult died of old age?

Nah, Charles and Camilla are entitled to their wedding day. The pope's death is niether unexpected or tragic, nor cause for any profound running around.

18. Yeah, Sheesh
The royal family kicked the Pope out centuries ago. Frankly, it's perfect for Charles if the funeral is on Friday. Gives the guy some peace while the press is in Rome.

8. So?
It's been planned purely as a private ceremony, not a big official wedding, unlike with Diana. The Queen never planned to attend, apparently to allow the two to have a private ceremony. Charles is not Catholic.

The whole world shouldn't come to a crashing stop because one old man died.

With all respect to British DUers, I don't give a two-bit damn about where, when or whether Charles and Camilla get married.

10.  Henry VIII decreed that the Pope had no jurisdiction over the Church of
England. After the Vatican would not grant him a divorce,King Henry VIII gave his assent to four anti-papal statutes passed in Parliament in the spring of 1534, and in November the statute of the Royal Supremacy declared the King to be Supreme Head of the English Church.

no doubt ably represent the UK at the Pope's funeral. Charles and Camilla will certainly not be missed and can go on with their plans. This shouldn't be an issue at all.
