Groups Organize To Defend DeLay (response to Schiavo critics) -WP
snip>
Asked his reaction to the ads, DeLay said, "Bring it on."

"It's nothing but a bunch of leftist organizations that have a public strategy to demonize me, and usually they overreach," DeLay told Fox News and other news outlets. "My constituents know what's going on, and if they're going to do this, I think it shows who they are and what they are."
....
DeLay also was asked about a report in the Los Angeles Times on Sunday revealing that in 1988 he had supported a decision by his family not to begin dialysis for his father, Charles Ray DeLay, who had suffered a severe head injury and was in a coma when his kidneys failed. He died shortly after.

"My father was in a coma. Schiavo is a living person," DeLay said. "My father was on life support and dying. Schiavo is living and wants to live. There is no similarity at all and to even suggest so is pretty sad."

Republicans distributed research about the groups' liberal backers, and their connections to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

1. I thought the family made the decision not to hook him up to life support?
Did that get reported inaccurately, or am I remembering it incorrectly, and is DeLay a lying sack of shit?

3. People in a coma are not "living persons"
better call the long-term wards and tell them to pull the plug on all those bedridden leaches.

4. "LEFTIST ORGANIZATIONS" are "over-reaching"?
The extremist Right-Wings' penchant for projection has catapulted past pathological into a whole new realm of mental disorder.

When I posted this in this thread:
...(T)his time, the Dems played their cards perfectly.

They were smart enough to realize...that GOP blowback on Terri's law was guaranteed. So they offered only token support and resistance, and now they're sitting back, munching their popcorn, and enjoying the show: a show that stars Tom DeLay as the psychotic hypocrite; Jeb Bush as the impeachable presidential candidate; Robert Frist as the video diagnostician; Randall Terry as the made-to-order religious fanatic; and George Bush as the un-compassionate killer of Baby Sun Hudson. Conspicuously missing from the marquee are the Dems as "culture-of-death" advocates!

By the way, Tom, a comatose person is more "living" than a brain-dead or persistently vegetative one.

7. WSJ said it best - Delay stinks of the Beltway odor
The Wall Street Journal is conservative and it acknowledges that DeLay stinks.

8. databases & networks - Junk Mail Kings
"David A. Keene of the American Conservative Union and including the Heritage Foundation, Leadership Institute and Family Research Council -- met privately with DeLay last week and pledged to use their grass-roots databases and networks to try to mitigate the damage from news accounts of DeLay's travel and relationships with lobbyists."

Mass marketing works better if it's in more than one medium. And mail gives people the talking points.

11. How could Delay possibly know what his dad's coma was like.
And how could he know his dad's wishes. For all he knew his dad might have miraculously recovered in far less than 15 years. People in comas make sounds quite frequently - if they would have listened hard enough they might have heard him say "aaaaaa waaaaa". It is not uncommon for their eyes to be open, too. He might well have followed a balloon with his unfocused eyes for all we know.

Why didn't Delay and his family make 5 or 6 hours of video tapes of his dad, so we could edit them down to a few minutes and draw our own conclusions. Why should we have to trust the advice of "doctors", who can't even locate the soul rattling around in someone's skull like a decent preacher can. Why, we don't even have a CAT scan of a badly deteriorated brain to look at, then ignore.

How do we know Delay didn't "fix" that tram his dad rode in during the accident? Can he prove he had nothing to do with it? Why the unseemly haste to get rid of dear old dad? Maybe Delay abused his dad for years. After all, if baseless allegations are enough for Delay to smear Micheal Shiavo with, they ought to be good enough for Delay himself.

And why has it been reported that Delay and his mother are estranged and haven't talked for years? Shouldn't Delay always be referred to as "the congressman estranged from his parents"?

Delay owes it to good Christians everywhere to answer these questions, then answer them again, then again and again in a court of law the way Micheal Shiavo has.

And so on, with example of a nutty screed like Delay himself used against Shiavo. The slithering snake of a hypocrite.

for his medical degree? He took them by saying he was going to give them a good home and then did medical experiments on them while in med school?

Throw Santorum in there too.

But I think Delay would still win hands down (if snakes had hands).

20. Delay is very suspect
I've heard he and his dad didn't get along. Then there was the money issue. His dad was worth far more dead than alive. Why didn't his mother talk to him for years after the death of his father?

I've also heard in the GOP fashion that he had bought shares in the tram and had influence over its operations at the time of his father's
death. We need an investigation into this, now. He presented no legal case as to why his father should die. None at all. We need to intervene on the side of life and demand the scans, etc. This could be a criminal who sentenced an innocent to death. Even the WSJ says he stinks. We need to err in the side of life and investigate NOW.

23. WaTimes spins it: DeLay attacks taken personally
Conservative leaders say defending House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is a litmus test for any Republican lawmaker seeking their support, even as a liberal advocacy group announced yesterday it will run commercials questioning Mr. DeLay's ethics in some House Republicans' districts.
....
But conservatives say the attacks against Mr. DeLay are against the broader conservative movement, and many of them met last week in Washington to plot a defense.
"I think in the last couple of weeks, it's become apparent to many conservative groups in Washington that this is really, in many ways, an attack on them and their ideas, using Mr. DeLay as the surrogate target," said Gary Bauer, chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, a political action committee.
....
"Conservative leaders across the country are working now to make sure that any politician who hopes to have conservative support in the future had better be in the forefront as we attack those who attack Tom DeLay," he said.
