White House: Oil Costs Due In Part To Lack Of Legislation

By Alex Keto, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Bush administration Thursday blamed the record price levels for crude oil in part on Congress's inability to pass a package of energy legislation.

"The facts are we have run into this problem (of high energy costs) year after year because of a failure to act on a comprehensive energy plan," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

McClellan said the package of energy legislation that Bush proposed four years ago would offer the country a "comprehensive solution" to the nation's energy woes rather than "patch work crisis management."

Forget....supply - demand which is economics 101. The WH thinks that building better electricty grids & mentioning energy "conservation" ONCE a damn year is a plan for the world running out of oil.

He had a plan...IT's called invade Iraq...we read the damn books and saw they had Iraq Oil Maps 8 months BEFORE 911.

2. Just a quick comment on HTML usage
The "HTML lookup table" link has a cool function that embeds long URLs into any short visible text that you want. It prevents readers from the need of horizontal scrolling.

I can't find this news item using the URL provided. I also searched google, as well as looked around the Nasdaq news site. Is this really news and appropriate for LBN?

3. They passed their ANWAR drilling bill, now they need to quit blaming
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 05:29 PM by w4rma
everyone else for their bull.

And, btw, just like all the critics have been telling them, their ANWAR drilling will NOT reduce prices of oil in the U.S., one cent.

So now the Repugs want some bill that Enron helped to write before they went bankrupt.

they will just tell us that bush heard from God who instructed him to tear up one of the last known US wilderness areas and sell the low grade crude to the asians.

4. Whatever happened to Bush and his promise to "jawbone" the oil barons
of the Middle East? If I recall correctly,
he said during one of the debates with Al Gore
that, when the price of oil started going up,
the POTUS needs to pick up the phone and "jawbone"
with the Middle East oil producers to keep it down.
Something about protecting our economic interests.

So what happened to the "jawboning?"

5. Simple solution. . .
release the minutes of the meetings that formulated this "energy policy" four years ago, let us all see who and what and why and how and, if we then agree, we'll urge our congresscritters to approve the plan. Most likely, though, we're going to have questions and alternate ideas (seeing as how 'we the people' were kept out of the initial planning stages), but let's see the plan and we can discuss it. You know, like they do in a democracy.

14. A lot of stuff sure worked right before * got into office.
Now high oil bills is because of not having a * energy plan - although I thought Iraq was part of that plan.

Before * we had: A Constitution in working order, 2 large buildings in NY, a booming economy, a great stock market (ok a little anemic at the end), a President that could speak in complete sentences, jobs, friends around the world.

How come none of this works now after 200 years?
