US exonerates soldiers
Baghdad - The US military on Thursday cleared its troops of any wrongdoing in an incident earlier this month that left nine Iraqi security men and a Jordanian guard dead from US fire in the town of Fallujah.

US Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, commander of US ground forces in Iraq, said an inquiry had concluded that the US soldiers "acted within the construct of their rules of engagement."

"That investigation is complete," Sanchez told a news conference here. "It's undergoing final review in my office."

US officials had issued a rare apology after the September 12 shootings that triggered rage and vows of revenge among locals in the flashpoint town 50km west of Baghdad.
