President losing debate, Reid says
WASHINGTON -- Citing sliding poll numbers for President Bush's plan, Sen. Harry Reid said Monday he is confident Democrats are winning the debate over the future of Social Security.

Reid, the Senate Democratic leader, said Bush should drop his proposal for personal accounts.

"Privatization destroys Social Security," Reid said in an interview after addressing the International Association of Firefighters.

"It costs $5 trillion to make the transition (to private accounts), and as they've learned in England and Chile, it doesn't work. It's destroyed their social security programs."

Asked whether the Democrats can afford to stand pat on Social Security without offering changes of their own, Reid cited a poll in Monday's Washington Post that showed 35 percent approved of the way Bush is handling Social Security. That is a three-point drop since January.

"This president does not govern by polls," White House spokesman Ken Lisaius said. "He was elected to provide leadership for this country regarding issues like Social Security."

Reid called Bush's federal budget proposal for the new fiscal year "an act of fiction."

4. That's correct and he is leaving for Crawford TX now for Easter break
...:wtf: Does shrub still think he's back in college? Why isn't he working hard to put his SS plan out.

He also admitted that for four years his energy plan has languished from neglect, that he was worried about gasoline costs back in Jan 2001 and that he is still worried about gasoline costs today, but has literally done nothing about the situation. His solution, "...congress needs to approve ANWR so that the U.S. can include that oil in our reserves". Dumb shit, ANWR oil will all be exported to the far east, that's his plan. Enrich his oil buddies while Americans go right on paying through the nose for energy and everything else!

Did he quit already?? He is tired already? It has been hard work, flying around, talking to agreeable audiences, spewing lies and half-truths.

Is his tour done??

Well the Dems are offering changes. But since they involve (*gasp*) raising revenues no one wants to hear it.

15. Yeah, where did that question come from?
Who says Democrats are standing pat on Social Security? And as for "offering changes," did the alleged reporter happen to notice that in his press conference today Stupidhead himself said he hasn't made a proposal because he knows that it'll get shot down, picked apart, and exposed for the partisan bit of demogoguery this whole dog-and-pony show is?

I wonder if the writer of this hack job is on the White House payroll? Seems a rather obvious and pertinent question, given this administration's track record. Full disclosure, please.

6. DO. NOT. BACK. DOWN. - not a single step, we are right on this
This is the line in the sand, not a single inch. The minute we show weakness, they'll lunge in for the kill.

We owe it to the American citizenry to stand fast here.
Let them call us names and box us about the ears, we cannot let them destroy the most successful gov't program ever to simply line their pockets.

We may have to take it on the chin from those thieves, but I'm willing to do it for the financial security of ordinary people.

8. Hurrah for Reid
Do I agree with Reid on every issue? NO

But am I glad he's speaking up and attacking Bush? YES

Do I think the only hope we have for saving this country lies in a Dem majority in either the Senate and House? YES

Make sure they realize their asses are gonna be on a plate come their next re-election bid if they vote with President Dipshit.

This is a lie. chimp lives by polls. The little weasel bastard refuses to float a written plan because he is too chicken shit to take any heat. A god damn crippling stroke would be too good a fate for the motherfucker.
