Bush's Job Approval Ratings Drop to Lowest of Presidency
Bush's Job Approval Ratings Drop to Lowest of Presidency
September 23, 2003

George W. Bush's job approval ratings have dropped to the lowest of his presidency according to the latest survey by the American Research Group. Among all Americans, 47% say they approve of the way Bush is handling his job and 48% disapprove. The percentage of Americans saying that they disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job has doubled since May. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, 45% of Americans say they approve and 52% say they disapprove. Bush received his highest job approval ratings in October 2001 when 89% of Americans approved of the way he was handling his job (8% disapproved) and 73% approved of the way he was handling the economy (11% disapproved).

Among Americans registered to vote, 45% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 51% disapprove. As for Bush's handling of the economy, 45% of registered voters approve and 53% disapprove.

When it comes to the economy, 40% of Americans rate the national economy as very good or good and 59% rate the national economy as bad, very bad, or terrible. A total of 37% of Americans say the national economy is getting worse, compared to 40% in August. Those saying they approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president are more apt to be optimistic about the national economy.

9. Be prepared if there is an alert
unless you want to see those poll numbers go up again, as they did after 9/11 and at the beginning of the Iraq war. I think we have to be ready to offer the argument that Bush's security efforts are failing, and, if something catastrophic happens, that the "get 'em abroad so they don't get us here" idea is officially debunked. Are ANY Democrats offering some real ideas to counter the fearmongering -- e.g., practical advice to the people, serious security proposals?

15. Well, I don't think raising the alert level to Orange will help.

All this stuff is losing its kick anyway. Fenway Park could blow up during Game Seven of the World Series against the Cubs with the score tied in the 21st inning, and it might raise W's approval rating five points, tops.

2. He got what he wanted
He got his presidency, that is what he wanted at all cost. He had no plan beyond that, he just wanted the title, he wanted the things that said "Commander in Chief" sewn on the pocket. Just like Iraq, he has no exit strategy, or no plan while he is there.

23. speaking of the flight suit
we all know that this was just a Rove moment photo-op to use in the 2004 campaign

if Iraq continues to deteriorate, using such a photo in commericals would just remind people of his failures....

14. Perhaps he didn't have a plan but his neocon VP and

29. This is true
Their agenda is to roll back the New Deal, and I have to admit they've done a phenominal job of it in just 3 short years. They took a barely (if that) legitimate "president" and did tremendous amounts of damage with him.

Let's just hope this trend keeps up and that the Supreme Court Justices begin to realize just what a danger a George Jr. appointment would be to our nation.

16. Oh, he had a plan all right
1) Gut environmental regulations
2) Piss on the workers, the poor and the downtrodden
3) Grab as much Treasury money as possible for greedy cronies
4) Start wars to pump big buck$$$ into cronies' companies
5) Buy off or threaten the media so they'll always be ass-kissing
6) Keep important but damaging public papers away from the public
7) Stifle dissent
8) Create and maintain a kleptocracy

7. About the only thing
our regime has going for them are riggable electronic "voting" machines and a corporate media (which is slowly turning against him). Glad to see the People beginning to wake up, still can't believe 45% approve of his ruination of the economy (WTF).

13. Isn't that what he got in 2000?
To answer your quesiton I think that ~35% of the people are going to vote Repube no matter what and about the same percentage are going to vote Dem no matter what. That leaves 30% that has to be "captrued".

For a President who is what is seen as wartime and with massive numbers of troops overseas 47% is very low.

Also if I remember correctly back in the summer of 2000 at least two polls showed that ~47% would never vote for Gore due to Clinton's "behavior" so W didn't really pull anyone (of substantial numbers) to his side he just treaded water. He's treading hard right now.

22. I dont buy it....
I live in Duval county Florida a very conservative GOP owned place. I work as a veterinarian and see a pretty large sample of the people here. In talking to folks here I am amazed at what a huge amount of people4 dislike Bush. Here in Duval County. I can assure you that there is no 47% pro here. Maybe 25%, no more.

21. I won't be happy until Bush* is no longer the pResident!
I really don't care what his numbers are. I didn't like him when they were over 80% and I don't like him now. It's good that other people seem to be coming to their senses, but until this man gets voted out of office, the whole world is at risk.

28. How many DUers were in that 8% disapprove in October 2001???
I know for damned sure I was. I was almost immediately disgusted by the unilateral tone he was taking in response to the terrorist attacks, and it didn't take much clear thinking to see that he was trying to use the tragedy to his advantage.

Can the number really have been that low? 8% diapproval? People I know (not all of them, but more than 8% of them) out of the gate blamed George Jr.'s unilateral policies for fueling the hatred that led to the events. Other people I know immediately remembered the explicit threats OBL had given about spectacular attacks against America.

Only 8% disapproved? I find that hard to believe.
