After approving EU , Latvia's government in danger of disintegrating
Latvia's year-old government was in danger of collapsing yesterday after three of the four parties said they couldn't work with Prime Minister Einars Repse and called for his resignation.

The joint appeal came just two days after Latvians voted by a 2-to-1 margin to approve the former Soviet republic's entry into the European Union in a national referendum. The crisis was not sparked by the vote.

Coalition infighting had already been apparent for months, but the ruling parties agreed not to withdraw before the referendum, which they all supported, fearing it could hamper efforts to convince residents to vote yes.
