Milbank: A Thousand Points of Plan
By Dana Milbank

"There's going to be a lot of time for 10-point plans," Texas Gov. George W. Bush said as he launched his presidential campaign in June 1999.

Ladies and gentlemen, that time is now. The president has issued not only a pair of 10-point plans but four six-point plans, two five-point plans and a three-point plan, not to mention plans with 16, 22, 23 and 30 points apiece.

(snip)

BAD EXAMPLE: When Bush was stumping for his "jobs and growth" tax cut proposal in April, he went to Timken Co., a maker of steel bearings in Canton, Ohio. "The greatest strength of the American economy is found right here," Bush said then, predicting the tax cut would bring "more money for investment, more money for growth, and more money for jobs."

A month later, Bush signed a $350 billion tax cut, less than he wanted but still what he called "a bold package." And Timken? The company announced last week that it is cutting 900 jobs and lowering its earnings forecasts.

MOVING TARGET: "Acting pursuant to the Constitution and Public Law 107-243 is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001."

-- President Bush, March 18 letter to Congress.

"We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11th."

-- President Bush, Sept. 17.

3. Great, Now Apologize For Handing The Presidency To Dimson
"You know what I think Howie? I think that Gore is sanctimonious and that's sort of the worst thing you can be in the eyes of the press. And he has been disliked all along and it was because he gives a sense that he's better than everybody, for that matter, but the sense that he's better than us as reporters. Whereas President Bush probably is sure that he's better than us -- he's probably right, but he does not convey that sense. He does not seem to be dripping with contempt when he looks at us, and I think that has *something* to do with the coverage."

Reliable Sources, August 10, 2002

It's unmistakeable, you made the monster we are seeing today, you cheaply and clown-painted hooWAH!

Journeys with George? or something like that and it was clear that most of the people covering monkeybutt had the depth of a thimble.
I agree with you, I would love to start seeing some mea culpa mea maxima culpa articles from these folks. They should take responsibility for what they have done. Their careless, thoughtless and shallow reporting has caused this disaster. I wanted to add that I also agree that once someone has turned a new leaf that they should be supported. No sense in alienating someone who is getting the word out.

6. Well, I wonder if the "sanctimonious" wasn't fully merited
Ya have to kind of wonder what Gore's mind-set was, after he watched his and Clinton's administration get trashed--and Clinton directly attacked--non-stop for years by the press.

7. Okay, I'll say it...
<snip> By far, Bush favors the six-point plan as his all-purpose panacea. </snip>

Of course, the number of the Beast.

Somebody had to say it. ;-)

Go, Milbank!

9. Milbank also had good pre-war/war articles punching aWol,
one particularly, about Shrub's problems with telling the truth.

10. Yes Millbank took apart his Cincinnati speech
The WMD/missile tubes/unmanned aerial vehicle claims and promptly got frozen out of the White house briefings for a week.

Is Millbank a man? or a woman?
