U.S. Soldier Killed, Four Wounded in Iraq
Middle East - AP

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. soldier was killed and four wounded in fighting in Iraq , the military said Monday.

The soldiers were with the 3rd Infantry Division, which is charged with patrolling the capital, Baghdad, said Spc. Giovanni Llorente, a military spokesman.

The spokesman gave no details on the time or place of the attack, and the names of the dead and wounded were withheld pending notification of next of kin.

However, there were several explosions along the al-Khadra Highway in western Baghdad, and an Associated Press photographer said witnesses reported U.S. casualties. ---

6. Another "Bring them on Attack"
This is yet another tragic example of this failed imperialist administration and their sabre rattling rhetoric. Regregtfully, it's American boys who pay the price for it.

7. This is going to be a long week for both our boys and the Iraqis

July 14 --- anniversary of 1958 revolution against British backed monarchy (or 'Draw Your Own Historic Parallel Day')

July 16 ---- anniversary of 1968 Baathist coup

July 17 ---- anniversary of 1979 Saddam's own little junta....

I think the UN can officially declare that July is the International Month of Revolution and Civil Unrest... geesh

Bastille Day, July 4th, and tons of other countries... i guess it's what no air conditioning does to discontent masses.

9. Maybe
I'm not so sure if anniversaries are as big of a deal to Arabs and Muslims as we think. So many anniversaries have come and gone with nothing happening. 9/11/01 was not an anniversary. In general, US forces are in danger over there 24/7/365 because of this reckless administration.

I'm all for being happy but this is arrogance. This should be talked about on CNN, right? At least the Dems. with spines should bring this up. Iraq is not a game for our children of the Iraqis whose country has been invaded.

In my opinion this soldier's behavior is just going to make more hatred and them try to kill more of our children!

Is it illegal to put bags over peoples faces? Especially in 100 degrees plus?

It looks like we're making friends alright!

The picture there now is of some soldier in the 1st div.

Looking at the bottom of the article is the lovely summary for the next Hardball: "Does Bush really need to find WMD to justify the war?" :puke:

12. The RPG hit the driver of the truck, leaving a big hole on the door

A U.S. military truck shows damage
from the rocket-propelled grenade
attack that killed one GI and wounded
six others.

Around 6 a.m., a convoy of the 3rd Infantry Division traveling in the Al Mansur area of Baghdad when it was hit by multiple RPGs. Casualties were evacuated to the 28th Combat Support Hospital, according to the spokeswoman.

With the latest death, 81 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since President Bush announced an end to major combat operations May 1. Of those, 33 have been killed by hostile fire and 48 were victims of non-hostile fire or accidents.

One U.S. soldier was killed and two others injured early Sunday in Iraq when a tractor-trailer slammed into their parked vehicle, U.S. Central Command said. The incident took place at a checkpoint outside of a base camp near the city of Ad Diwaniyah at about 6:30 a.m.

How many before people realize their much-vaulted commander-In-Thief lied.. I have some family fighting this war, and all I know is we are mostly pissed that we were lied to. (Not me, I knew along time ago, marched on NYC 2/15)

19. When the numbers
start coming in bunches, 10 killed, twenty killed, fifty or so wounded. Then people will pay attention, sad but true, it's going to take mass casualties to get people to wake up.

20. It has been mass casualities though hasn't it?
What's the total number of US casualties after The Dicktator declared "Mission Accomplished"? More than 30?

Interesting to note, CBS has it down as 1 Killed 6 wounded

22. I would put it at over 400 casualties since "Mission Accomplished"
The number of US war dead since May 1 is at least 85.

23. I mean at one time
or over the course of a day. One or two dead is a tragedy and shouldn't happen, but people will sit up and take notice when the talking head at the anchor desk reads their script about twenty american dead and many more wounded in an attack.

24. But I dunno if that's gonna happen.
You in the US have to push the total number!!

I don't think that the number in one day will reach that high.

27. True but...
6 != 20.

It might happen. But I still think that once it hits the magic 100 mark (unless lighting strikes and the shrubbies pull the troops home) the people in the US should bombard the media outlets with e-mails/phone calls etc etc.

100 DEAD I thought this was "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"
100 DEAD and still no WMD

...you get the drift.

Shame that it has to come to this, but with the oil barons in charge, I guess you couldn't expect better.

28. not enough troops
Rummy was told. I have read that there really are alot of vehicle accidents because the roads are so unsafe with ambushes. Vehicles try to speed from one point to another.

RPGs, can penetrate 12 inches of armor. It must be scarey as hell to be riding on a long stretch of road in a truck or a hummer. Sad.

29. casualties
I'm afraid editors are in "cut and paste" mode
(fill in the blank) soldier(s) was (were) killed in the (___)area of Iraq today in an rpg attack.
We need to put a story behind these losses. PBS newshour is doing a lite version of this nightly but a 5 second shot of another of the shrub's victims is not going to get it done. Our young people are dying
daily for this poser's misadventure
