Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid to join call for Gannon investigation
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/index.php?p=121

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) will join Democratic whip Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) in calling for an investigation discredited White House reporter Jeff Gannon, RAW STORY has learned.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Reid aide said the senator had decided to join the call for an investigation today.

“Senator Reid will be signing,” the aide said.

Reid’s decision to sign on makes him the third Senate Democrat to declare their intentions. Reid joins Durbin and Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).

Sen. Durbin began circulating a letter to President Bush last night demanding an investigation into how a reporter using a false name and working for a partisan agency got access to the White House. The letter was revealed by RAW STORY Tuesday evening.

See the Today Show this Morning? and Leslie Stahl seemed pretty outraged on Bill Maher's piece so we'll get to the bottom it. Just gotta keep the story alive!

3. I called Barbara Boxer's office to ask, as a constituent, AND a
rose-sender, AND a contributor to her reelection campaign, WHY she has not yet signed this. Backslide from her backbone? I hope not.

I also called Joe Biden's office - since he made such a forceful set of comments on Bill Maher's show last Friday night - saying - and complaining about - all the key things that need to be looked into here. WHERE the hell is HIS signature?

8. They're still in recess.
The letter will be officially sent out tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if some Senators haven't even heard about this, yet.

9. I kind of hope
that they've heard about this by now!

Senators ought to be keeping in touch on recess or at least watching the news.

offices.

www.congress.org - has all the listings for everybody, in Washington DC AND back at home - locally and regionally. That's where they'll be making the rounds for the rest of the week. Maybe holding town meetings, too. If we make noise at the local level, they'll hear about it before they head back to Washington.

Thanks for the reminder, though. It's been frustrating for me to see the slow uptake about this, and I'd forgotten about this week's recess.

BTW, that's one way to get word to Harry Reid to thank him for his courage, and cheer him on - indeed - ENcourage him to show more of it. Reward the good work! Just like dog treats for good bowser behavior. It worked for Pavlov.

32. Apparently, Biden's office needed more time to ponder it...
but it seems to me he was pondering the situation enough to publicly demand for an inquiry on "Real Time with Bill Mahr"...

23. No they haven" t every major media has covered this and most not
flatteringly to Bushie and Gannon. Anderson Cooper took Gannon apart and CBS questioned the Rove connection. Lesley Stahl asked why he got a pass. What more do you want? We just have to keep pushing it sex sells. This is the butt of all the late night comedy and that is what really hurts!

House will be hard but we'll do that too with time. Then Harry Reid will have some more leverage to kick more ass.

16. Great News! I plan to call his office tommorrow and thank him!
As well as Sen's Boxer, Feinstein, Kennedy, Kerry and many more....

It's time the Dem's recognized their calling and realize that unless they start taking a stand against the GOP and this White House, there will be no justice in this country. And if any of them wonder if they are doing the right thing in supporting Durbin's letter for an investigation into the Gannon/Guckert White House and possible Plame connection, they should be reminded to ask themselves "What would the Republican's have done if this had happenened during the Clinton Years or if Kerry was President? :eyes:

The Dems need to pursue this with vigor and not back off....its the only way the Dems have any chance of the truth coming out and finding out what is going on there in the White House.

He's the minority leader, so his actions carry a lot of extra weight. I wouldn't be surprised if many other Dem senators follow his lead and sign on to the call for an investigation.

The GOP can cover up for only so long once the heavyweights start piling on. Thanks to Dick Durbin, who really got this ball rolling. With Kerry signing on, it's going to be very hard for the GOP to stonewall.

36. Durbin letter slated to be delivered to President Bush Friday morning
Aide says senators being given time to sign call for inquiry
An aide to the senator who is circulating a letter calling for an investigation into how ‘Jeff Gannon’ got access to the White House told RAW STORY Thursday the letter would be delivered to President Bush Friday morning.

The aide, who asked not to be named, said Sen. Durbin’s office had experienced difficulty tracking down Democratic senators in their home districts and were allowing other member offices more time to decide. Congress is in recess this week.

Durbin’s aide declined to say how many senators had signed on. The senator’s office has said they will brief RAW STORY on the letter and provide more detail Friday morning. Five senatorial offices–Durbin, Kennedy, Kerry, Lautenberg and Reid–have said publicly that they had or will sign the letter to President Bush, which demands a full and transparent investigation into how a conservative correspondent allegedly got access to classified information and the president.

“Given the unprecedented level of security in Washington since 9/11, it is troubling that that a non-journalist using a false name and working for a sham news organization could have gained regular access to the White House for such an extended period of time,” Durbin writes.
