Task Force Baghdad Soldier Dies During Attack

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A Task Force Baghdad Soldier was killed Feb. 19 when a suicide bomber detonated near by.

U.S. Soldiers were responding to a request for help from Iraqi Security forces after an earlier explosion wounded several local nationals when the bomb detonated.

A local national was also killed and a U.S. Soldier and ING were wounded.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

I didn't see your post until mine was finished. This is exactly what I've been looking for.

After looking at the charts, it seems that there is an upward trend, with some spikes along the way.

I'm going to do some research based on these statistics. I'm currently concerned about the number of injuries & fatalities related to bomb and explosive incidents. (recall that warehouse packed with explosives at Al-Qaqaa)....

I'm going to quote some statistics from Saturday's Oregonian newspaper. It lists the most recent deaths and cause of deaths:

"The latest deaths reported by the military:"

1) 1 US soldier killed when a bomb detonated near him.
2) 1 US soldier killed when an explosive blew up near his vehicle.
3) 1 US soldier killed when an explosive while on patrol
4) 1 US soldier killed by small-arms fire
5) 1 US soldier killed when a mortar round struck his vehicle.
6) 1 US soldier killed when a car bomb detonated near his vehicle.
7) 1 US soldier killed when his vehicle was hit by an explosive.
8) 1 US soldier killed when an explosive detonated near his vehicle.
9) 1 US soldier died from non-combat injuries (?)
10) 1 US soldier killed from a vehicle accident.
11) 1 US soldier killed while conducting combat operations.
12) 1 US soldier killed from small-arms fire.

I'm starting to see a trend here, and it has to do with explosives and cars. It seems that Iraqis have a big supply of bombs and explosives. US troops are vulnerable when they are in their vehicles.

The report doesn't say what kind of vehicles they were using. Maybe Hum-vees? Or Bradley vehicles? Either way, they are vulnerable. I'm not sure if they can be protected, if insurgents are throwing bombs in through the windows.
