Shootings by jumpy GIs erode good will

BAGHDAD, Iraq - In the last six days, U.S. troops have shot at Iraqi police, journalists, a wedding party and a top Italian diplomat searching for looted antiquities.

<snip>

In areas where resistance is stiffest, the massive response by U.S. soldiers is changing once-neutral residents into outright opponents.

``The killing of the policemen was the turning point for me,'' said Sabah Khalaf, recalling the Sept. 12 friendly-fire killing of eight U.S.-allied Iraqi policemen in Fallujah - one of the most dangerous cities for American forces.

<snip>

``I thought they came as liberators and had hope that they would bring this country freedom,'' said Khalaf, a 31-year-old resident of Fallujah. ``Initially, we were against the police, calling them agents of the Americans. But by killing the police, the Americans showed their true faces. ... I think the attacks against them will increase, and revenge for the dead policemen will be taken.''

...more...

1. it's terrible, yet I feel sorry for the troops
they simply were not trained for this kind of occupation. They should not be there.

2. Think of all the frat-boy and country club Pukes who backed this war...
...and who REFUSE to serve, yet claim to "support Bush"...

...I think THOSE guys should be over there risking their lives...

...Bush supporters who are pro-war, and yet refuse to enlist should feel ashamed, but they probably do not...

3. Yes! And, let's send Barbara and Jenna first!
Then we'll send George P. Bush (Jeb's son who just graduated law school) and his sister Nicole. :-)

Let's send Cheney's daughter and any children or grandchildren of Rumsfeld, too!

After all, this is an 'equal opportunity' war on terra'!

4. They would make great troops, no doubt...
...every one knows that Republicans are "brave", "patriotic", "intelligent" and that they "support the war and Bush"...

...Why are not more Republicans fighting this war? Is it becuase they are cowards and hypocrites, who only support this war so long as "those other people" fight it?
