CIA, FBI Warn Panel of Top Threats to U.S.

By KATHERINE SHRADER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Al-Qaida and associated groups top the list of threats to the United States, leading government intelligence officials told Congress on Wednesday in a grim assessment that also highlighted Iran's emergence as a major threat to American interests in the Middle East.

Despite gains made against al-Qaida and other affiliates, CIA (news - web sites) Director Porter Goss, in an unusually blunt statement before the mostly secretive Senate Intelligence Committee, said the terror group is intent on finding ways to circumvent U.S. security enhancements to attack the homeland.

"It may be only a matter of time before al-Qaida or other groups attempt to use chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons. We must focus on that," Goss said.

2. This is the preparation for the next one
things are getting too hot and heavy for them, numbers are dropping, its time for another "terrorist" attack to get the people waving their flags and offering up their children - and then they will say = well we warned you - we tried.....

5. Yeah, probably, and they "know" that Iran is harboring the remains
of both the Taliban and Al Qaeda (never mind that they have repeatedly and publicly disdained, captured, tried, and executed members of both groups), so we'd better hit them before they hit us.

Oh, and by the way, here's that special skills draft. You don't have to worry.

First they came for the doctors and nurses
Then they came for the programmers...

8. "circumvent U.S. security enhancements to attack the homeland"
Right - the enhancements like cutting border and customs agents :eyes:

And we have done oh-so-much to protect our water supply and our nuclear sites.

I guess they are going to have to figure out how to circimvent our incredibly vulnerable borders.

Totally partisan garbage, tailor-made to fit the PNAC agenda.

15. Of course they'll never get to "the end of the trail" of A.Q. Khan.
Goss also said that the intelligence community has yet to get to the "end of the trail" of the nuclear black market run by disgraced Pakistani scientist, A.Q. Khan. Goss wouldn't rule out the possibility that organizations, rather than states, could obtain nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

No kidding. If they got to the end of the trail, that might expose Halliburton, Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld to charges of treason.

Read my signature link for the whole story.

18. Make us AFRAID make us demand USA PATRIOT Act renewal
Ok, I accept that AQ and a bunch of other bad guys want to hurt the US homeland.

But I also accept that there are a bunch of conservatives who are so terrorized by the threat that they are willing to sacrifice every freedom we enjoy in order that they not look bad when the next attack comes.

The best way to preserve freedom, is to live free or die trying.
