BBC: Iran, Syria 'form common front'
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 08:40 AM by Cooley Hurd
...against threats against both nations.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4270859.stm

<snip>
Iran and Syria say they are to form a common front to face challenges and threats from overseas.
"We are ready to help Syria on all grounds to confront threats," Iranian Vice-President Mohammad Reza Aref said after meeting Syrian PM Naji al-Otari.

Both countries are under intense US pressure, with Washington accusing Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons.

US tensions with Syria have soared since the apparent suicide attack that killed former Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri.

Get a grip. What is your evidence that Osama has had anything to do with any of this? I say Peter Pan did it. You believe the Bush* administration but not me eh? Well Peter Pan did indeed have every bit as much to do with 9-11 as Osama did, and you can take that to the bank.

I will stand by my post, and expand it further, while you go get a grip. I believe Osama and every other person in the world that wants this country to fail, is laughing right now. I did not say Osama, lurking in the shadows, orchestrated the governments of Iran and Syria to band together. And where the hell did I mention 9/11!?! Indeed, Peter Pan must have paid you a magical and mischievous visit, and cursed your reading glasses.

No other president outraged the Arabians more than Bush.

You remember the video from Osama short before the election?

You knew probably what the fear in old Europe was about Kerry wining?
Sending troops in Iraq when Kerry asks.

"I fear the next step in PNAC will involve a broader war than we are expecting"

A core component of the PNAC ideology is the idea of a winnable nuclear war. Each day I see us moving closer and closer to that eventual reality.

I think the freepers want war with them because Fox News says they are bad people.

I think it really is that simple. Scary, actually horrifying, but that simple.

The hawks in the administration want if for different reasons. I am just talking about the 80 IQ and below crowd watching Fox News.

There won't be war with them though, there is no way China and Russia are going to sit around and let the United States slowly get control of all the Middle East and Persian oil fields.

41. Re: What did either of these countries do to us...
Well, Syria doesn't support our good buddy Israel.

Iran took over our embassy and took hostages.

A better question might be what have we done to them.

Iran democratically elected a president prior to the Shah of Iran, and we (our CIA) assisted the Shah in a coup getting rid of him because he wasn't "pro-American".

A war against Iran has been Bush's end-game from the beginning. I've been predicting that the US would provoke Iran into war ever since Condaleeza started rattling US sabers at the Iranians during her trip to Europe.

consider themselves part of this common front as well.

From an operational standpoint if the country your basing your operations out of just had an election where the winners all want you out, starting wars with two neighboring countries might not be a good decision.

This administration doesn't seem to be about "good decisions" though.

CNN was reporting that earlier this morning.

Syria should be forced to withdraw from Lebanon, but it should be the United Nations that does it. Bush is going to use Syria's occupation of Lebanon as an excuse to rescue the freedom-loving people of Lebanon -- and before you know it we'll be on our way to Damascus.

47. US 'using spying drones on Iran' : BBC

Iran says the US has been flying unmanned surveillance drones over the country's nuclear sites.

Such spying activities have been going on for a "long time", said Intelligence Minister Ali Yunesi.

He said the air force had been ordered to shoot down any unknown or suspicious aircraft in Iranian airspace.

"Most of the shining objects that our people see over Iran's airspace are American spying equipment used to spy on Iran's nuclear facilities," he said.

55. Isn't this an admission of airspace violation and sovereignty?
That's "cassus belli" (cause for war) in any legal sense.

Why don't the Iranians do what the Cubans did with the "Brothers to the Rescue" planes? Warn the U.S....warn the U.S. twice...third time is the charm...blow the drones out of the sky.

What legitimacy would the U.S. have to claim that Iran had no right to blow their drones out of the sky? The U.S. would have no legal standing.

Iran should shoot the drones out of the sky...and be done with it.

that nobody would make any adjustments towards their bullshit)? Because if you see the world through the foggy lense of "Pride" as neocons think America should be (and hawks suffer from) it is a faulty emotion (which is why enlightened people looked down on it).

I cannot wait for tomorrow's news!!

63. Isn't that how Hitler got WWII to start? He bullied & bullied until
all Western European nations signed packs and became fronts. Then Hitler waltzed into Poland and Britain, Canada, France, etc.etc. were all at war with Germany.

Germany also was in the habit of going to war based on myth making, wedge issues and false information.

Someone do something. Impeach, impeach, impeach! I see an Alliance forming between NK, Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, etc. etc.

65. He didn't expect Britain and France would fight for Poland.
What he didn't consider, was that they weren't fighting for Poland. They were fighting because he'd given them no choice. Hitler had demonstrated that appeasement and diplomacy would never satisfy him. So a line had to be drawn in the sand.

I've been thinking for some time now, that a new line is being drawn. And if the United States crosses it....

67. Yeah - that is what gets me. How the US is on the other side pattern wise
than England was at the time.

I know they were drawing a line in the sand agaist Hitler and I have been very proud that they did it (and didn't wait 2 years to go to war). Even if they missed the whole point about the genocided until the very end. They still stood up to pure evil.

75. where is the new line?
The Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization. Upon it depends our own British life, and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this Island or lose the war. If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be free and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, "This was their finest hour."

Winston Churchill
House of Commons, June18th 1940

If one is attacked, the other should come to their immediate aid. Doing so would go far to ensure peace.

Does PNAC mention Russia? I know it names Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, North Korea and China. Of course, just because other countries aren't on the Bushie's hit list doesn't mean they won't be involved--one way or the other.

78. Has anyone noticed that Iraq (US troops) are surrounded by enemies?

Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia. Only Jordan (probably neutral) and Turkey (could go either way) are not stated enemies of US imperialism.

Then add maybe a million Iraqis and you have 150,000 US troops surrounded by enough enemies to leave nothing but a red spot in the desert where US bases used to be.

If this doesn't start WWIII, it will likely mean the end of over a century of American expansionism. And ALL of it was to further American Predatory Capitalism. In Central America is was to help United Fruit. In the middle east and east asia it's to help US oil companies.

It will now take no more than a spark to end our occupation of Iraq. The only question is how will we react. If we answer with nukes to Tehran and Damascus, the rest of the world will unite against us and you can kiss America goodbye.

My hope is that the deaths of so many Americans will turn public opinion against the neocons and bush. But I'm not optimistic.

We've been waiting for it for the past three years. It's time to choose up sides, and don't look for countries to sit on the sidelines to wait it out.
China, Russia, N. korea, Turkey, Kurds, they all have a stake, also India and Pakistan, hell the nukes will fly this year it sounds like.

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran and Syria, who both are facing pressure from the United States, said Wednesday they will form a "united front" to confront possible threats against them, state-run television reported.

"In view of the special conditions faced by Syria, Iran will transfer its experience, especially concerning sanctions, to Syria," Mohammad Reza Aref, Iran's first vice president, was quoted as saying after meeting Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otari.

"At this sensitive point, the two countries require a united front due to numerous challenges."

85. Does this surprise anyone?
This is why we have new "terror threats" being issued! Now, should we prepared for another "terrorist attack?" The Arab world will ally against the US. I fear we will be facing sanctions very soon from the UN, then we will arrogantly blow it off. This mis-administration is VERY dangerous and is playing fast and loose with all of us!
