AP: Likely Iraq PM Promises Moderation
By MAGGIE MICHAEL

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The shy family doctor who emerged Tuesday as the most likely candidate to become Iraq's first democratically elected prime minister said ending the nation's rampant violence is his top priority and that U.S. troops would remain as long as they are needed to achieve that goal.

In an exclusive Associated Press interview, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, a 58-year-old moderate Shiite Muslim politician who fled a brutal crackdown by Saddam Hussein in 1980, also talked about drafting a constitution that will draw not only on Islam for inspiration.

1. No longer any doubt now that Sistani is in cahoots with BushCo
Some people laughed when that was suggested on some old threads. Its pretty rock solid looking now.

2. It's Politics
You say what others want to hear, but when you get into office you do what you want. It's not that Sistani and BushCo are in cahoots, I think it's more like Sistani and his inner circle have learned very important lessons by paying attention to the US way of politics.

3. I'll bet that they "petition" for the troops to stay, rather than leave
Now, it looks like a done deal. This was in the bag for a long time, and a reason why the *Co crowd was so giddy about the elections that ratified it. IMHO.
