Explosion in Madrid
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 03:26 AM by imenja
Explosion at a convention center in Madrid. Details on CNN. No word yet on who is responsible for the attack.

"CNN's Madrid Bureau Chief Al Goodman said that reports said the blast, outside one of the entrances to the building, had been caused by a car bomb.

There were no reported fatalities but police reported a number of light injuries, Goodman said. . . .

A spokesman for Madrid emergency services told Reuters that at least 10 people were being treated for injuries, although none of them was serious. . . .

Newspaper El Pais said on its Web site a destroyed car was seen at the explosion site. Basque police told Reuters the Basque newspaper Gara had received a warning about the blast from ETA."

6. Looks like it was the ETA.

They apparently called in a bomb threat before it went off, which they usually do, it seems. Probably in order to reduce the number of deaths, and instead increase the amount of fear.

8. ah, Al Quaeda and similar groups don't issue warnings
because they like to maximize casualties. It sounds like it was ETA.
