Rice praises Poland's Iraq role
BBC

New US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has praised Poland's role in Iraq.

Ms Rice made the remarks during a stop-over in Warsaw - part of her first overseas tour since taking the job.

She said the US understood there would be certain changes after the Iraq poll - a reference to Polish plans to withdraw some troops later this month.

From Poland, Ms Rice is due in Turkey where she is also due to meet her Russian counterpart. The trip has been dominated by US concerns over Iran.

7. Expect her to make nothing but powder puff trips...
This is our new secretary of state saying there is nothing to be said or done diplomatically with Iran. So be prepared for more of her blathering.

Once again, if she ever comes up with an original thought, I'll eat my hat.

8. Poland isn't pulling out
While opinion polls in Poland consistently show disapproval of our paricipation in this mess, Poland won't pull out until the US okays it, I believe. We do have a plan to pull out 800 troops soon, 1700 will stay. The idea is to do less policing and more training of Iraqi army and police.

10. Poland seeks Iraqi oil stake
Poland, which has sent troops to support the US-led forces in Iraq, has acknowledged its "ultimate objective" is to acquire supplies of Iraqi oil.

"We have never hidden our desire for Polish oil companies to finally have access to sources of commodities," Mr Cimoszewicz told the Polish PAP news agency.

Access to the oilfields "is our ultimate objective," he added.

11. Poland, as it is,
should be kicked out of the EU. This country, largely, has a history of being for sale to whoever pays or threatens. Only exception, which speaks for good men everywhere: the uprisings of Gdansk and Sceczin in the early 70s. The alliance between Poland and the maniacs in power here is completely natural. I'm sure they'd gladly volunteer to harbor future Gizmo Bay facilities. Like they have in the past. With the benediction of XXXXXXXXX (auto-censored to comply with local policies).
