Bush Aides Seek to Put Out Credibility Firestorm
http://reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&story...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top aides to President Bush insisted on Sunday he did not hype Iraq's suspected weapons of mass destruction as they sought to put out a political firestorm ignited by a disputed statement he made in his case for war.

But questions about Bush's credibility persisted, threatening to further erode public support for the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq and create more difficulty at home for U.S. ally British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Appearing on Sunday television shows, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld repeated that it was a mistake for Bush to cite in his State of the Union address a British finding -- one that U.S. intelligence has been unable to confirm -- that former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein sought to buy uranium from Africa for Iraq's nuclear program.

1. "End of story," Rumsfeld declared on ABC's "This Week."
Why does that declaration remind me of, "I am not a crook?"

4. The British did not tell them anything
The former ambassador to Iraq and the current in charge in Africa was sent to Nigeria to investigate this. That was in Feb '02. He reported back to Chenney that there was nothing. During the summer Chenney went on a selling spree of the idea. The IAEA said there was nothing there. Tennet spoke to the Congress, Bush spoke to the congress and the vote was passed. Bush put it in the SOTU address and in March of '03 The IAEA put its findings in an article that was distributed by the Reuters news service. This was printed on 3/7/03. Rumsfeld this morning on Meet the Press said this is the first he knew of the credibility of the problem, but it was already after the fact.

One also has to look at what is going on over in England right now. Blair is about to get crucified for lying to the people. If I am not mistaken they are blaming us and we are blaming them. Muddy the water, put out a lot of stories and everybody will be so confused they will think that they just misunderstood and everything is OK.

3. Gee, you'd think going to war would be a big deal
But no, for this corrupt administration, it's just another political point to be scored, another talking point victory. Real people will have their lives on the line? So what, the Republicans got the American people to go along with the Iraq invasion, and Lil George's poll numbers went up, up, up!

So, that should be the end of the story, right? Unless you're some kind of America-hating liberal or something! Are you?

5. The fundamental problem is not the lying.
Lying is SOP.
The problem is that things are sucking badly in Iraq.
That is why they are toast.

6. The White House is trying to make this only about the uranium lies.
But the lies about the uranium were only a very, very, very small portion of the lies about the Bush Invasion of Iraq. The media needs to link the litany and progression of all the lies. If the White House is successful at keeping the focus only on the uranium Bushshit the public will lose interest.
