Bush's second term begins in prayer
WASHINGTON - President Bush on Friday started the first full day of his second term by attending a prayer service at Washington’s National Cathedral, following a tradition set by George Washington.

Instrumental and choral music filled the church and an interfaith lineup of Christian, Jewish and Muslim clergy helped celebrate through prayer the events of the day before — Bush’s swearing-in at the Capitol.

Offering one prayer, the Rev. Billy Graham said he believed God had a hand in Bush’s re-election.
...
The hourlong ceremony was the last official event of his inauguration, which was steeped in religious overtones....
The only thing on the president’s public schedule for the first day of his second term was the prayer service.

2. "...Muslim clergy helped celebrate"
Suppose they felt a little conflicted?

Nah, the repubs must have dug up a few who are like bush, and have no soul.

7. Us too, and you won't believe this but
Peggy Noonan had the same response.

The inaugural address itself was startling. It left me with a bad feeling, and reluctant dislike. Rhetorically, it veered from high-class boilerplate to strong and simple sentences, but it was not pedestrian. George W. Bush's second inaugural will no doubt prove historic because it carried a punch, asserting an agenda so sweeping that an observer quipped that by the end he would not have been surprised if the president had announced we were going to colonize Mars.
...
The president's speech seemed rather heavenish. It was a God-drenched speech. This president, who has been accused of giving too much attention to religious imagery and religious thought, has not let the criticism enter him. God was invoked relentlessly. "The Author of Liberty." "God moves and chooses as He wills. We have confidence because freedom is the permanent hope of mankind . . . the longing of the soul."

It seemed a document produced by a White House on a mission.....

20. Personally, I despise all religions equally..
But I find that evangelicals REALLY scare the hell out of catholics (and me..). Maybe it is my bias because I come from a society where the few people that are quite religious are catholic.

Catholics are not so pushy in their beliefs. Probably because they have been around for a good time and have staked a lot of ground, but also because of their belief that people can be saved even if they are not catholic.

Cheers..

9. If prayer really worked Bush would be in prison
I'll wager that many more people prayed against Bush than for him. If there was a god to hear and answer those prayers, Bush would be behind bars right now.

15. "Interfaith" bwa-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaaa I CALL BULLSHIT!
I was raised a Christian in Texas... I know what "interfaith" means. It's a bullshit cover to make it appear as though Christians are super-tolerant, wink-wink, but we all know what the true religion is, don't we???????? They would always trot out "interfaith" when they needed cover for something.

Fuck them and fuck their version of Christianity, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

16. Bush should ask for a new constitutional amendment
The president could officially become "defender of the faith", just like the British monarchy. It is where he seems to be heading.
