Rice Stands Firm in Senate Questioning

By ANNE GEARAN, AP Diplomatic Writer

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State nominee Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) gave no ground in Senate confirmation questioning Tuesday, insisting the United States was fully prepared for the Iraq (news - web sites) war and its aftermath and refusing to give a timetable for U.S. troops to come home.

An American exit strategy depends on Iraq's ability to defend itself against terrorists after this month's elections, she said.

Rice seemed headed for easy confirmation by the Senate as President Bush (news - web sites)'s choice to be the country's top diplomat. She did have a tense exchange with Sen. Barbara Boxer (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif. — Rice repeatedly asked the senator not to question her truthfulness — but former presidential nominee John Kerry (news - web sites), D-Mass., was the only member of the Foreign Relations Committee who told her she might not win his vote.

"This was never going to be easy," Rice said of the war and its aftermath during a confirmation hearing in which she painted an optimistic picture of the future in Iraq — and for resolution of the long conflict between Israel and the Palestinians as well.

12. She reverts to some childish mannerisms.
"My imaginary friend did it, Daddy. You believe your little girl, don't you, Daddy?"

I swear, I get a glimpse into her upbringing. She's a practiced liar.

3. Her voice gets all shaky when she lies.
Is that what they consider standing firm?

13. She is not a good liar.
She becomes very insecure. Unless she is doing her indignant anger routine. That doesn't really work, either.

6. I disagree!
I watched Senator Kerry, Senator Boxer and Senator Dodd literally send her to the little gurl's room during break. She probably had to make changes, if you get my gist.

She was literally blushing under Boxer's debate.

Quivering and quite shaky when Kerry spoke to her, but he's well over her head, he looked her straight in the eye; something she could not quite handle and she was nervous as all.

Dodd almost had her in tears.

She smiles ear-to-ear with the Repuks, then turns hard looking when peering towards the Democrats. But she's the Chimp's right-hand puppet!

Lying through her teeth - all 8 of them!

10. But Kerry might vote for her. What a cowardly hypocrite.
Same as his vote for the war...a passionate speech against the measure and then he votes for it.

7. It would be great if the questioning could go up through Friday...
...leaving Condi's confirmation hanging over Bush's Thursday coronation. That would send a strong signal that Bush will not have an easy time of it over the next four years. I think the killer question for Condi Rice would be, "As Chief U.S. Diplomat, should hostilities anywhere in the world pose a threat to the security of the United States and its interests, what diplomatic measures would you take to resolve such conflicts, before recommending to the president that diplomatic ties are ineffective and the only resolution is armed conflict"?

9. She's a partisan Bushie
She's educated but common sense dumb. I think if Bush told her to lay down and bark, she'd ask how many times. It's sad that we have someone as either National Security Advisor or SOS.

Yup, lying, manipulative liars always feign indignant outrage when people accuse them of lying.

These freaks are malignant con artists.

Damn straight she shouldn't be confirmed.

She rec'd the PDB titled, "Bin Laden Planning to Attack Inside the United States" and did nothing. She claimed she thought the PDB didn't describe imminent threats, but was "a historical document".

Ummmmm....ok....yeah, and maybe that PDB was a recipe for crock-pot cheesy potatoes, too. Has anyone point-blank asked this woman to fully explain those inane "historical document" statements?

She was also one of the lying doomsayers, who convinced the public that Saddam had every biological, chemical and nuclear weapon known to humankind.

Someone needs to ask that woman, "So what about those mushroom clouds, sweet cheeks?"

The very thing Boxer should be doing--is questioning Rice's integrity. If Rice gets belligerent as a tactic to thwart the truth about her lies--get just as nasty back to her with the facts about her lies.

So...sick...of...these...thugs...running...the...White...House!!!

18. But Boxer isn't being fair using facts like that
She's questioning con's integrity using her (condo's) own quotes. How can she lie her way out of that? I mean, she tried, but she was completely cornered by her own words. It was a joy to watch.

I only saw the bit on CNN--which gave me the impression that Con (love that you called her that) came out fighting against Boxer and might have won the round.

21. You can see it online they said
at c-span.org or something like that. If Con came out fighting, I missed that part because in my opinion she wasn't even IN the fight. How can you argue against your own statements? She couldn't.

Also, I think they're going to be running reruns all night - the best ones are Boxer & the reasons for going to war, and Boxer & the torture. She's really passionate, and con is....well, plastic I think.

26. I just faxed Obama and asked him to support Boxer
Obama did well for a first hearing. I wish he would play some back-up to Boxer though. A united effort might actually expose her lies to a wider audience. Especially since Obama is a moderate and has broad appeal.

34. Nine hours of debate on Rice (PRAY FOR filibuster!)
http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=565

Ranking Democratic leader Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-NV) office disclosed Wednesday afternoon that several members planned to debate Rice’s nomination on the Senate floor next week, but Senate offices are mum on this chilly inaugural eve on who exactly will speak.

Reid’s office declined to name any of the members who have expressed interest in speaking, saying it is traditional for the minority leader’s office to allow the senators to come forward on their own time. The spokesman asserted that it was “not a filibuster.”

“There are a number of Democrats not on the committee that want to have a chance to debate her nomination,” another Reid spokesman told the Associated Press.
