1. what a hoot!
now that the economy is sinking, let's have tax cuts!!!

Economist William Shugart suggests a solution for states who are seeking to jump-start business investment: Instead of raising taxes like Alabamas Riley tried to do, lower taxes for businesses and on items like food and apparel.

I recommend that we eliminate the state corporate income tax; there would be short-term reduction in revenue but would pay off long term in business investment stimulated by the tax cuts, said Shughart, Hearin Professor of Economics at the University of Mississippi.

7. Duh, what a joke! Since people don't have jobs, it won't matter
what is provided for sale. There's nobody to buy it!

Why is the GOP so brain-dead to the concept of "demand", you know, the other part of "supply and demand"?

2. Terrible Article - Tax Cuts Are Not The Answer
Edited on Sun Sep-14-03 09:55 PM by mhr
It recommends eliminating all corporate taxes to stimulate investment. This is just a disguised way for corporations to improve their bottom lines with no guarantee of new investment.

The cost of capital is at historic lows. Corporations are not investmenting in new plant and equipment because there is little demand for new products and service, not because they pat too much tax!
