DNA trawl to find Cape Cod killer
From Roland Watson in Washington

THE Cape Cod community of Truro is used to fishing expeditions. Fishing keeps many of the 1,600 locals afloat, despite bitter Atlantic winter winds.

However, the police have begun a different kind of search as they try to solve the three-year-old gruesome murder of a fashion writer. They are asking each of Truros 790 men for a DNA sample.

It is an unusual move in the United States and has caused a backlash from some residents of the little town in one of Massachusetts most popular tourist areas, and from civil rights groups. The American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts has demanded that police drop the DNA check immediately.

Their protests are falling on deaf ears. Investigators believe that this is about their best chance of ever bringing the killer of Christa Worthington to justice.,,11069-1434929,0...
